Hey,

This is in one of the EPT San Remo €1k side events.

I'd been playing quite snug and solid since we are pre-ante. Villain was a young guy from Lithuania who seemed pretty aggro. He'd been 3betting a lot already pre-ante including one hand where UTG opens, he 3bets +UTG+2 and it somehow gets to show down and he has A8s.

Onto the hand..

Blinds 75/150

I have ~8800 villain covers.

Folds to me in the HJ and I open to 400 with ATdd. Villain 3bets the button to 925. I call.

Flop Ah Kh Js (2075)

I check, villain bets 1050, I call.

Turn Ah Kh Js Ac (4175)

I check, villain thinks for about 50 seconds and checks back.

River Ah Kh Js Ac Qc (4175)

We have around 6800 behind. What's your play and why.

In the prior hand, did V call a river bet or check it? I'm betting here, maybe 1800 - 2200 (whatever I think he will call) and obv. calling any shove by V.

I don't think villain gonna call here with most of his showdown value range (second/third pair) , plus the fact that he has a lot of of air hands in this spot, I am checking to try to induce him to bluff the river and call his bet.

pretty easy check on the river, let him bluff.

Tank for longer than normal and check.

I was going to type something very similar to this, but this is my thought process. Also, he is more likely to bluff with his air bc the board got scarier on river. He gave up on turn bc he knows you're calling the flop with a strong hand that really doesn’t change for the worse on the turn. But the river allows him to bluff. Check and hope he bluffs.

I’m pretty sure i know who villain is. I think I played with him as well in San Remo. He is a really good aggressive player. So as long as u think he is capable of bluffing c/c is the best line. The board was already quite scary and the river card is a perfect card for him to bluff. And as far we know his 3 betting range is quite big while his range which could call a reasonable sized raise here is pretty slim. I wouldn’t bet out small bc I think the value we can get by c/c here is quite higher.

very easy check/call since HJ to button 3bet range is going to have a decent amount of air, and most of his value range beats you.
