Forget it, as a cash donkey, it took me a while to see how big of an overbet this was. It can't be +EV and it's probably inferior to c/c.

I think he probably thought that jovial gent is gonna bet the btn 100% here when checked to and rather than having to make a hero calldown he could just shove and take the pot down now. I don't think it's good but I have a lot of empathy for him.

It's a very awkward stack size. I personally prefer check/call but I don't think it's horrible. It's a tough spot.
