Hey gang,

Been lurking here a little. I appreciate the helpful (and requisitely tough) tone here. I'd love some feedback on my fitness approach, particularly my exercise regimen.

Some background:

I'm a 46 y.o. male, around 5'11". I was thin growing up, through and past college - say until roughly age 30, where I'm guessing I weighed 170lbs. Then I slowly started packing it on. Nothing dramatic, just a few (ok, more than a few!) pounds a year, but clearly it added up. I peaked about a year ago at 243lbs. I then got slightly better about eating (kinda) and slightly better about exercise (kinda) and dropped around 20lbs. Then it slowly started reaccumulating.

In September I got serious about weight loss for the first time. My wife joined Weight Watchers, so I came along for the ride, although only for the food/activity tracking. I also started exercising regularly. Since then I am down 28 pounds, at slightly better than 1.5lbs/week.

Workouts:
Using a fitbit, I try to walk at least 13k steps/day. 95% of the time, 5k of those steps are on a treadmill (45 minutes, slight incline, speeds stepping between 2.6 to 4.6 mph). I also do a 10 minute kettlebell workout daily, mainly now with a 30lb bell.

Goals:
I'd like to get to 180lbs and then assess where I am to see if I want to go further. I care more about fitness and health than optics, and I'm not active in any sports. I don't have any set time frame, and in fact am really hoping to make this a lifestyle change, and not a discrete event. I also want to make sure I'm burning fat, and maintaining/increasing muscle.

I'd like to keep my workouts in the home, and with limited equipment. I own a few kettlebells and a treadmill, and so far so good. The wisdom of this group is what got me on to the kettlebells, instead of treadmill only.

Questions:
Am I doing enough "strength" exercise to maintain what muscle I have?
Is doing all of this daily appropriate or are breaks needed?
Are there other things I should be doing in addition to / in lieu of what I am doing now?
Are there any risks/dangers to my current approach?

Thanks in advance gurus. I've already learned and been motivated by what I've read here.

And more more question: does time of day for workout matter? Most of my workouts occur after midnight, within a few hours of when I go to bed. Is that an issue?
