I feel like jdock is probably most qualified to answer this question, but I'm going to throw it out there anyway...

Do you think that guys who workout together often do so because they enjoy male intimacy? Not necessarily in a sexual way, but they just like being physically and emotionally close to another man.

Before someone comes at you with homophobia or legit ****, let's start with a straight answer. I enjoy lifting with men and women. I might prefer a male workout partner because I want someone who can keep up with me, or outlift me, or at least has similar lifting ambition. But that's rare. Either they DNEL but THINK they EL, or they are ****ing *******s and I'd rather ignore them from afar. And that is why I generally hate lifting with anyone. See Monte's log for anecdotes.

Hey guys. It's possible I begin the actual SUP build today. Have been getting the shop in order and making sure everything is sharp enough to cut right through my own flesh with the slightest of contact. I'll start posting some pics as work progresses. I suppose my plan calls for finishing by the end of the month, but all depends on the wife's radiation treatment plan in Houston as well as her exercise schedule and tolerance level. We'll be driving and it's about 500 miles from where we live in Alabama to Houston, and coming back the next day. Just got the Mini tuned up and pretty sure I'm ordering a dashcam soon. Need to pick out some stops along the way and come up with exercises she can do including some long walks. She really never sits still and unless she's asleep we're going to need to get her out of the car every hour. Flying is not an option.

My primary exercises lately have been planing and chiseling wood, sharpening metal for planing and sharpening wood, flattening sharpening stones, and truing up platforms for flattening. My upper body musculature has been increasing as a result, and while I don't hate it, I'd rather not turn back into a linebacker.

Taking a break from IF since Saturday and finding it pretty strange to eat breakfast again. Bizarrely eventually found the BCAA flavors I liked best were the cheapest available through drugstore.com; Ultimate Nutrition. Kinda curious to see what happens with my weight fluctuation as I hadn't been expecting to add 5 pounds over the last two months while on it, but as I say my upper body appears to be adding muscle and my pants fit the same.

I have no idea. But I think having close male friends is good and healthy.

i never lift with anyone else but as far as i can tell accountability is a big part of it. easier to slink out when you only have yourself to answer to. peer recognition plays a part too imo, i think in general people are wired to expect gratification more proximate to effort than most 'modern' goals allow for. having your bro/broette see you put the werk in is a little boost that keeps people committed i'd imagine

of course some people just enjoy the company of other human beings, idk if some lvl of deep emotional bonding factors into it much. competitive sports are way more conducive to that kind of camaraderie iyam

I am going to cut down a oak tree today. It's by my driveway and is just about dead. If I never post again, it's because it fell on me in the process.

I guess I'm saying my September goal is to not get killed by an oak tree.

yes. i might find a lifting bro for these reasons, i've been lifting on my own for 2 years and it's kind of boring with no one to joke around with. the problem is that i'm in and out of the gym in 25 minutes some times, most bro's like to crush an hour in swole city.

it's the same reason why guys have male sleeping buddies. it's not h0m0, just a dude you sometimes sleep together with in the same bed.
09-02-2013 , 08:47 AM
that's the main reason i don't do it, most bros don't understand the power of short breaks. in and out, bust your ass for 30mins max, get a pump, go home and shower
09-02-2013 , 08:47 AM
I really don't know how to explain myself here or what I'm trying to say... I see the same couples of men at the gym all the time and often they really seem like they could be romantic partners. But I know (well, I'm fairly sure) they're not gay by the usual definition of the term. But at the same time, they spend a lot of time together, they touch each other, they share happiness. It seems like they could be in a romantic relationship, but I know (I presume) they're not.
