Sounds like a good excuse for a California coast road trip

The beach scene is rather disappointing in Cali too I must say. Water is cold muthafukka! I don't really need an excuse for a road trip there though...I should just move. Stupid friends and family.

Hahaha, that's what you get for starting your road trip in NorCal, lololol.

Norcal And So Cal might as well be different countries, esp wrt to the beach.

Nor Cal = Coast = cold, rainy, very green, cool stuff to see

So Cal = Beach = sunny, 72 degrees all year, warm(er) water, babes, etc

Lololololol You started your road trip in something like Eureka, right? Hahahaha, I love Eureka but it's pretty dick suck for beaches

Eh, we were in San Diego and while the weather was fine, the water was still pretty cold (like 62-63 F). Can't be compared to Atlantic beaches.

Started in San Francisco and drove north. Pretty big difference between nor and socal, that's for sure...loved both.

Lifted some stuff.

2011-04-13

Press
3x5x53.5 kg (118 lbs)

Think I'll try one more round of heavy NSAIDs for 5 days like Rip recommends. Shoulder doesn't feel up to benching just yet.

Sumo deadlift
1x5x105 kg (231 lbs)

Felt light as a feather. I'm really deliriously happy my DL form is good now. Motivation through the roof even on a deficit.

Random stuff:
Curlz!
Triceps pushdowns!
Weighted planks!

ETA: new Eleiko bars in the gym, love the sound of sliding plates onto those bad boys

In before I weigh less than you, can lift more, but somehow have a much higher bf% (and aren't as sexy )

This will happen soon imo.

I think you're just unlucky with the fat deposits around your stomach bro, like you've alluded to yourself. I'm definitely way weaker than you now. Stupid shoulder injury set me back a lot, don't wanna think about where my bench is at...

And wtf, I'll prob be at ~186 this Saturday - you're not near that now, are you? If so, sick life. Low carbing can cut a loooot of water weight though.

Yeah lol low carb. I've started actually trying to eat some though, carb ups on mondays and I'm going to try to get around 50 a day now, though I won't be surprised if I miss.

Yeah I guess I have a bit to go, I'll see how close we are at the end of the month, probably pretty close, depending on what you're doing.

Also, my target weight to spend the summer at is ~180 (for now) so since I'm doing low carb I figured I need to get to a solid, consistent ~175 for a while before I start eating at 'maintenance' because I figure I'll shoot up 180 again pretty quick if I am eating a healthy amount of carbs again. Do I have that right?

Yeah that sounds pretty likely. Even doing a standard deficit, which sort of implies lower carbs but not ketosis low, I weighed 5 lbs less after 10 days.

You're prob dieting more efficiently than me. I'm a total foodie and there are just too many opportunities for good eats, so I'm not losing more than 1-1.5 lbs on avg in a week. Which is fine by me anyway.

I'm starting to see how low you need to go to actually get diamond cut abs....could still probably drop another 11-12 lbs I'm guessing. Planning to drop down to around 175-176 lbs now, as opposed to the 180 I originally aimed for. And still I couldn't sharpen dem rocks. Oh well.

While I certainly understand the appeal for abs (and expect to get there at some point) I really just don't like having so much extra fat on my stomach. If I can just get it to the point where I don't feel like it's annoyingly fat there, abs would just be a bonus.

I def like dieting because it sure makes you appreciate food more. When I'm not eating at a restriction I find myself eating food that not good for me or good tasting. Total waste.

If you wanted to cook a big Norwjeilander dinner for someone who had never been there, what would you make?

Squat
3x3x107.5 kg (237 lbs)

Easy.

Press
1x5x54.5 kg (120 lbs)

Got a bad twinge in my neck after this, which I get every now and then. Didn't do any more sets to be sure.

Sumo DL
1x5x110 kg (242 lbs)

Alright I DL'ed on Thursday, but haven't really been eating at a deficit + it was super light so why not? This felt easy too. Guessing my current 5RM for sumos is around 130 kg or so.

Random stuff:
Farmer's walks!
Weighted planks!

The walks were kind of cool. Did a few rounds of 25 meters each. Funny how badly the grip deteriorated. Started with 40 kg/88 lbs DBs, last round I used 38 kgs and couldn't finish.

Weight: 85.5 kg (+0.2 kg)

Slacked big-time on Thursday and Friday, so no surprise here. Won't eat at a deficit this week, I have work off and will socialize a lot so f it.

JF,

I would definitely make a rein deer dish. Probably a whole, roasted filet with a mushroom stew and other assorted goodies. Alternatively, a halibut or cod dish. In-season cod from the North Sea is really beyond delicious.

Very much agree on the food appreciation thing. Every bite of chocolate is like a bite of heaven...not so when you're nom nom'ing away.

Squat
3x3x110 kg (242 lbs)

Hard-ish. No foam roller = sad goblin.

Press
3x5x50 kg

Took it easy on account of my neck.

DB rows
something something

DB swings
16 kg DB for 100 swings in 7:09

Yeah, not too well conditioned...totally busted afterwards, lol. Will hopefully improve fast. Plan on doing these 2/week. Gonna add a hill sprint session on Sundays, prob not before I'm doing dieting tho.

I've had a bad neck for ~15 years.

I've recently realized that when I roll & stretch out my thoracic spine on the roller more frequently, there are less neck problems. It seems proper thoracic position eliminates the muscles of the neck from tightening up. Rolling the thoracic spine is more important to my neck than massaging tight neck muscles.

I've read all kinds of stuff that basically says the thoracic spine is important for healthy neck, shoulders, etc., but its become more clear to me recently how important it is.

I've been getting neck kinks for the last ~15 years. After I started lifting, I haven't had any really bad ones - before that, I actually needed cortisone shots a couple of times, had very little ROM.

I've been slacking a bit with the thoracic foam rolling, I'll be sure to keep it up. I have little doubt you're correct about this.
Soulman's RoFL and nomzies: vanity log Quote

I bet if you saw a (good) chiropractor once in a while, you'd be a lot better off and never need cortisone again. Neck adjustments are the nuts imo.

Do the thoracic rolling and that will help a lot all by itself.
Soulman's RoFL and nomzies: vanity log Quote

Well luckily I haven't needed a cortisone shot in 10+ years. But I should still prob see a good chiro every once in a while, especially since I know one.

Skipped Thursday, lol sore from the DB swings (...) + generally pretty beat up. So much easier to skip workouts when you know the consequences are...~non-existent.

Squat
3x3x110 kg

Press
3x5x53.5 kg (118 lbs)

Sumo DL
1x5x115 kg (253 lbs)

Pretty excellent workout, no one else at the (new) gym and had the entire place to myself for the 1.5 hours I was there. It really is an awesome place -nothing but Eleiko bars, Eleiko iron plates, lots of other plates, lots of room, excellent air quality etc. Too bad it's a bit too far away for me, plus I have to pay $7-8 bux passing toll booths (?).

Been slacking big-time with the diet this week. Off from work + being at parents' house for some days + holiday = om nom nom nom/alcohol time. Up to 86 kg on Friday, doh. Oh wells. Back at it on Tuesday, time to lose the last 5-6 kgs goddamn it.

Cross-posted from the form check thread:

HBBS form checks (sumo DL refuses to load, grrr):

Set 1 (7 o'clock)
Set 2 (9 o'clock)
Set 3 (6 o'clock)

Without someone yelling at me to rotate the elbows forward, they sliiide back in a LBBS position, doh.

I noticed on set 3 that the bar is kind of uneven (and rep 3 is ugly). Wonder if my legs are the same length?
Soulman's RoFL and nomzies: vanity log Quote
04-24-2011 , 05:35 PM
Yeah I noticed all the same things you did. Lol LBBS arm position tho. I've found it's easier to grip the bar less and more use my hands to just hold it in place. this forces my arms to take a much more vertical approach.
