YOYOYO

So when programs and **** say "3 1/2 oz of turkey" are they talking about prepackaged deli slices, fresh deli slices, or cooking their own bird? Are prepackaged deli slices bad for you?

My bad. Is it better than a donut? Yes. Is it significantly worse for you than plain turkey, ground turkey, fresh turkey? Yes.

OK... so prepackaged deli = bad. What about when the deli cuts the meat for you? Those are prepackaged whole birds, I think... still bad for you?

Gracias.

This article doesn't explain why prepacked turkey is bad. In fact quite the contrary...

"Why is sodium nitrate added to all of these processed meats?... They preserve the color of the meat....Since neither canned chicken nor tuna have any redness to protect, they generally do not contain nitrates."

By that same token, Turkey is a white meat so has no colour to protect either?

The meat is filled with tons of preservatives, chemicals and salts to help it keep longer and look nicer. A number of which are suspected carcinogens, as for the salt, while it's still highly debated, excess salt consumption is not something you want to routinely subject your kidneys to.
