A pullup/chin up based workout. A pullup/chin up based workout.

I just put up a pull up bar and I dont really have interest to lift weights at the gym. My goal is to lose weight and gain more upper body stength. I play squash 3-4x a week for an hour. Some people told me that once I can do 10 pull ups correctly, I should be adding weight. Is there any truth to this?

Any other tips?

pull ups are awesome, my favourite exercise. i do weights now, but for a while they were my only real upper body exercise. it put shedloads of muscle on my back, and a nice amount on my guns and forearms.

but, they are not a full body workout, you need to add in other exercises to build the rest of your body. at the very least do dips, pushups and squats/ pistols. none of those exercises require special equipment or leaving the house, and they will more or less add up to a full body workout.

after you can do about a dozen chins, if you want to get stronger and keep building muscle, focus on adding weight to them rather than doing more.

In addition to some of the other suggestions, I would add push-ups and variations to work the antagonist.
