i just finished my first year of college. Sadly, i put on more than the freshman 15. I went into college weighting 165, 5'10", 18 year old. After my first week, i twisted my left ankle. as a person who does martial arts 3x a week along with playing 3 varsity sports in highschool, this twisted ankle changed my workout schedule. Come November, i was playing basketball and severely damaged my right ankle. I was on crutches for about three weeks, with the doctor expecting me to take at least 8 months to heal. Around May or June i was able to get back into martial arts, which has now become a 2 hour twice a week thing (until i finish my first quarter, in which case i can go three times a week).
I put on about 25 pounds - I weighted 190 when i got back home. i went to school again for the summer quarter, but decided i had to change my body appreance.
I started dieting. my inital plan was to just cut down on my weight immediately. No serious lifting, no intention to put on muscle weight. I want to change my frame and my size by dropping down to 155-160 again. After i reach that goal, I plan on starting to lift again in an effort to put on muscle until i reach about 175 or 180.
Theoretically, I want to shed as much fat as i can.
I have been on a diet which basically includes no red meat, only lean turkey and chicken, no milk - only soy, no cheese, no big meals, a salad at every meal with little dressing, eating large amounts of cantaloupe. I snack on small amounts of granola and healthy cereal. The hardest part about this diet is avoiding alcohol, late night pizza runs, and the variance of cafeteria food. i'm pretty good about sticking to my diet, but i allow one or twice a week to treat myself to either a) a 40oz or b) a slice of pizza
So far i've been on the diet for about six weeks and i've lost 15.5lbs I'm down to 174.5 lbs.
like i said i do jujitsu seriously.
My idea is to now start running on days that i don't do jujitsu in order to help shed off stomach fat. I'm not a very good runner, with a history of chest infections. I used to run CC in highschool, however those days are over for me.
Anyone have comments, suggestions or ideas to help me achieve my goal?
