If I'm "bulking", do I need to count calories or can I just eat when hungry? I'm eating 5-6 meals a day and eating clean. I'm 6'3 212 fwiw. I kind of figured calorie counting would be much more important when cutting.

And I know its a rookie question.

Magic Johnson was on tv and my gf was saying how impressive it's been after all these years that he's stayed so healthy. Then we were talking about it still seems kinda weird that he got in the first place. Then she asked if she thought there was a chance that he got it from sharing needles while doing steroids.

Doubtful. Do you think he took roids in college? Do you think he suddenly needed them to compete in the NBA after dominating at msu? Makes no sense.

Edit to add: his game didn't really rely on athleticism in the first place.

Which part? He was a legend already at 15, was he roiding then? Of course he was a great athlete, but he's not a guy who relied on athleticism to succeed, he used mismatches (6'9 PG) and skill. He wasn't dunking over someone every time down the court.

Yeah, I guess counting is important lol. Book I read (bigger, leaner, stronger) said 1g protein/bw, 2g Carbs, and.3 grams fat.

So it's 212 g protein, 424g Carbs, and about 70g fat.

Compound lifts and cardio 3-5 times per week.

Sound about right?

Zoltan, decent macro breakdown but you want a bit more calories imo. I'm 6'4 214 (this morning) and bulking at 3650 calories a day, that was 3174 if my maths right. 14-16 x bodyweight in pounds is a good rule of thumb for maintenance for someone lifting heavy, and I aim for 500 calories over maintenance a day while bulking. 1-1.25g protein per pound bw is what I go for there, fat and carbs you had looked pretty good too. And yeah, unless it's for a specific goal cardio is counterproductive for bulking.

Yeah, wasn't sure about cardio but I will probably just play hoops twice a week or something. Im not trying to get super jacked, just strong and lean for basketball. Seems best way is bulking then cutting.

Thanks for the help. The diet is def a dramatic change. I am getting used to the brown rice and chicken. Avocados are ****ing delicious. Not drinking will be difficult.

There is just so much information out there its hard to sift through it. I will look more into the FAQ.

not uncommon for people reuse their own needles but sharing them is like degen addict behavior since they cost like 20 cents each.

Yeah I played basketball in college, and was like 180 pounds. Could not gain weight ever. We lifted but it was all half-assed and I would eat horribly. Gained 30 pounds since then and now trying to turn it into muscle lol.

Lifting is great but I really miss the competition of basketball and really any sport.
