Does anyone have any recommendations for buying an olympic weight set? I don't want to go to CL for used ones.

Also looking at squat racks / power cages.

Prob want a squat rack or small power cage.

I'd love to find a good balance between price and quality.
Cheap, decent quality weights arent easy to find in a store. Shipping costs are ridiculous if you buy online. Craigslist #1 imo.

I have a Powertec rack - good quality for the money imo, but their customer service leaves something to be desired.

Doing it over, I'd consider buying the same rack, but would also consider more expensive stuff like Rogue and EliteFTS stuff. I'd definitely buy all my plates from either Craigslist or a used equipment store. Bars - totally depends on budget.

My log has pics & stories about where my stuff all came from - if you have specific questions, post in there.

I just know my neck is going to look like his in 30 years. I hope my legs never look like that though.

for sure roy is lifting 400+. i'm assuming it's 100lb plates and a 55 pound bar.

here's my squat from yesterday. 245, which is a 5 pound PR, which is pleasing, but conservative. i wanted to go bigger. i half assed the depth on this one so i was a little shocked to see it was a good lift, lol.

Went to gym, did a little lifting, 30 minute bike ride, felt pretty decent and was switching to a 30 minute run but had to move my car, woman in front of me couldnt work out how to pay for her ticket so I was stuck there for about 10 minutes, how normal is it to just decide you don't want to run anymore and go home?

Ipod working again randomly after being inconsolable and refusing to turn on the past 2-3 days despite being plugged into a few different chargers. I guess it was angry with me?

Nice squat Beata....looked like you coulda done that for 5.

I don't think anyone runs in here. I'll hop on a bike every now and then for warmup. Probably should do some sort of cardio. :/

I feel like giving up and going back home at the start of almost every single session, especially swimming. It only lasts for about 5 mins then I get into it.

DL bars are 20kg or 45lbs.

Unless you're pulling on a squat bar, which would be urdoingitwrong.jpg

Bar: Pendlay or Rogue for olympic bars, eliteFTS or Rogue for PL bars
Rogue has decent budget bars imo...

Steel plates: Craigslist (<$.50/lb should be target) or local (? price)
Bumper plates: Rogue (Hi-Temp for cheap but very bouncy and thick black plates, nice Eleiko-looking ones for more $/nice option) or Pendlay (also have same nice Eleiko-looking option, exact same manufacturer as Rogue)
Power Cage or Squat Stand: Rogue imo >>> everything else

Shipping is a lot. Just get everything you want at once and from a single source and it's not too bad though. For the above stuff I decided on Rogue ymmv depending on what you need.

I decided this in July, 2009. I ran a mildly hilly half marathon, then said, "This is stupid I'm never running over a mile again." Didn't.

Pretty big leak not to be doing any LSD to prepare for WWZ imo.

Me too, but Cha's is much nicer and pretty much all of mine came from CL.

That's what they did at every single one of my meets!

dafuq?

Well, the good news is that DL bars are significantly thinner than squat bars, so when you actually do a meet with real equipment you might just pull more.

I think I'd rather be fast than strong in that scenario.

Can someone explain to me what the deal is with all these bars? I always thought: a) everything was either worthless or an "olympic" bar and b) every bar was either worthless or weighed 20 kg or 45 lbs. What is a PL bar?

Memo to self: Ease back into working out in the mornings on empty. Hypoglycmia crashes are the ****ing worst.

I think the rules for USAPL are that you can only use 1 bar for the whole competition. This leads to no use of a DL bar for meets other than DL only meets. I am not sure if we even have a DL bar up here. Seems like they use a PL bar that is reserved for use on meets only (not available for training). This particular bar is 20 kg and I have not found it too be overly thick.

DL bars are usually ~27mm and 20kg or 45lbs (occasional 50lbs like the Iron Wolfe bar) and 7-7.5ft long.

Squat bars are usually ~30-35mm and 50-65lbs and 8-8.5ft long.

Some companies make bench bars too, which usually fall in the middle, spec-wise.

Then with WLing, you get into bushing bars vs. bearing bars.

Yes, and this. I was sure that beata wasn't lifting in the USAPL/IPF though.

And ya, a power bar for those are usually a little thicker (28.5mm) with different space between the collars, like the Texas Power Bar (which I think is used for some USAPL meets).

I can think of dozens of more useful skills than strength or speed in that scenario. In the long run, strength would be way more useful though. If you're running it's probably game over anyway.
