It's one of these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_brown_snake

Super common down the east coast of Australia. Not the most deadly in terms of toxicity, but probably the most dangerous due to their tendency to set up shop close to people (they love sheds or like piles of wood and stuff) and being very aggressive.

That's the 2nd one she's killed in the last couple of months.
Does it look like the ants are already going to town on the snake? I think I'd be worried about ants swarming. That stuff on discovery channel was always very disturbing.

Also, lolstralia has a tv program called "today tonight"? lulz.

Any lolstralians confirm/deny end of world since it is already 12/21/12 21/12/12 (lol) there?

My understanding was that we had until eod, hence all the parties scheduled tomorrow night.

Also, nice haha.
12-20-2012 , 02:01 PM
I think 4 minutes was enough time to wait for a response and we can safely assume they are all dead at this point.
12-20-2012 , 02:03 PM
In that case I'm waiting until tomorrow to do laundry.
12-20-2012 , 02:07 PM
In that case, I'm waiting until tomorrow to tell my wife to do my laundry.

Spoiler:
jk. she would just look at me if I did that. maybe punch me. I do my own laundry.

I saw a brown snake while I was in Oz. It was just a baby, though. The leeches and flys were probably the most annoying critters I encountered.
12-20-2012 , 02:35 PM
Every time I see a snake IRL I produce one out of my anus into my pants.

That **** freaks me out. Pun intended.

I liked the old cartoon of the Hobbit better than the book itself, and LOTR was one of my favorite book/series growing up. The book itself never did anything for me.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I still cannot wrap my head that they turned the Hobbit (which is a pretty short novel where not a whole lot happened in the first half of the book) into a trilogy.

They add tons of other stuff.
12-20-2012 , 03:41 PM
j,

they added a bunch of stuff from the LoTR appendix. Plus expanded a bit on other stuff they felt like apparently.

I had no ****ing idea that the hobbit movie is part of a trilogy and not the whole thing. What a bunch of sellouts.
12-20-2012 , 04:20 PM
I'd much prefer they put it in a single movie but there were probably about a billion reasons not to.

Seriously.

Here's Peter Jackson's official gif reply to his critics:

I haven't seen the movie yet, but my sister who is a The Hobbit book nut says that most of the expansion is in the form of: book has a line that says "and then we didn't see Gandalf for a while," movie goes and shows you the adventure that Gandalf went on while no one else was around. Beyond it just kind of being "lol" that they're making a trilogy the same length as the one for like 4-5x as many pages of book, it doesn't seem unreasonable. Like, if I didn't know that the book was shorter, I wouldn't mind, so maybe I should just stfu and enjoy the movie.

I'm gonna say my budget is up to 40k. The top range of that seems pricey for a car imo. But I dno, 50k just seems ridiculous.

Btw a friend of mine wrecked her car recently too and every FB post is basically her crying and how much she misses her car.

OTOH, every 2p2 post of mine is about how boo-hoo I have to buy a new car and am terrified of driving in the winter.

So I dno......
imo if you have a fairly wide budget and know nothing about cars you might as well cut your budget down a huge chunk now since there's a good chance you wouldn't appreciate most of the differences anyways. Quoting you "Car, meh, just gets me from point A to point B" obv nothing wrong with that(far from it) but there's no sense spending more than necessary.

A fully loaded Camry/Accord/Legacy/Maxima/Mazda6 will run you around 30k, and when I say fully loaded, I mean it. These cars are very roomy and pretty goddamn nice. I would start test driving one step below(or two, you have no kids right?) and go from there. Maybe you'll appreciate the dynamics of a BMW, or the interior of an Audi, or the sedateness of a Lexus, but if you just run out and buy one for the sake of it you probably won't.

If I were me I'd get used GS350, if I were you I'd get a 2009-2011 Accord.

"The Hobbit" was my very favorite book growing up.

I wish they'd decided to make that book into a movie rather than making "Lord of the Rings, episode I".

"The Hobbit" wasn't written as a prequel and shouldn't have been treated as one by the filmmakers.
(but I understand, financially, why they did)
