Also, how much should I spend, I don't have a ton of disposable income, but I figure better this than anything else right? I'd have no problem dropping 4-500 on it, but could be convinced to spend more if theres an argument for spending more for higher quality.
Look in my log - the pics & vids will show what I have. Somewhere in there someone asked my opinion on that brand and I wrote a lengthy review that I dont want to rewrite.

As far as buying lifting shoes are concerned... is buying any pair of Chuck Taylor's good enough? Or is thre a difference between the different models like the All Star as opposed to the Cup?

Just bite the bullet and get some oly shoes. I started with chucks then went on to do-wins. Wish I had just started with the do-wins. Chucks are $40, do-wins are $120.

Do Wins are nicer for squats, but Chucks are fine for basically anything.

I'd call it a kip

I used chucks until a little bit ago when I got VS Dynamo's on sale (shipped to my house for about $51, normally around 85 w/o shipping). I still use my chucks for DLs, but do everything else in the Dynamo's. They feel a lot better in squats than chucks, but chucks work on a budget.

Question on energy drinks - I have been very tired lately and was going to buy some energy drinks. A friend told me they can be dangerous, which I had never heard before.

I have high blood pressure and asthma (unsure if this matters) and would like to use these drinks to have some energy to help me get stuff done on the weekend. Other than those 2 problems I am okay, I think that the tired feeling is from working a lot of hours and probably not a health issue.

Are energy drinks safe? Are some better than others for a person with high blood pressure?

I prefer sugar free redbull. The other ones make me feel like **** (monster, amp, rockstar, nos). I have never tried those little 5-hour energy shots though.

I play a lot of soccer so get a good cardio work out at least 3 time a week, my question is what do you guy think about protein shakes? I looked in the F.A.Q but only found a little section on them with no conclusion on them, i was wonder do any of you guys uses them and if so what ones? (if this has been answered a million time could someone link me to it and point me in the right directions, thanks for any help)
The important thing is that shakes aren't magical devices that will make you hudge. You need three things:
1) A caloric surplus
2) Enough protein (1-1.5 g/lbs of LBM)
3) A program that isn't crap

Btw, being a bro who does no lower body lifts is frowned upon here and will lead to an increased likelihood of not going easy on you

In regards to their safety - it's fine as long as you're not relying on them multiple times a day to keep on going.

But if you're tired even on the weekends - the better option is to sleep more rather than masking the long term symptoms of sleep deprivation. I use them to push through concentrated 2-3 day stretches of lots of work and little sleep. If I were consistently tired on the weekends over the long term, I would look for other solutions that would actually solve the problem.

is there a good resource for information about eating pre/post lifting? are protein shakes best at a certain time? what about generally eating before/after lifting? are there rules for specific amounts of time before/after?

Short answer: Eat some carbs (fruit, ice-cream, cola, a handful of sugar, whatever) and protein (shakes are fine/great) before and after working out. Chocolate milk before/during/after workouts is great if you're not cutting and can stomach milk.

Long answer: http://www.ironaddicts.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=12650

Protein shakes are just useful supplements to help you consume adequate protein.

You planning doing upper body only? (Don't say your legs are strong from playing football lad!)

so do most people doing protein shakes have them both before and after workouts?

I only have one after rather than before, but I have another couple throughout the day.

Stupid Alan Aragon has removed his workout nutrition recommendations. He posted slightly updated ones in an earlier AARR this year. Oh wells.

right now i lift in cross trainers pretty similar to these... http://www.finishline.com/store/prod...tId=prod681914

do i need oly shoes or are these fine?

Those look pretty crappy for lifting.

You don't NEED olympic lifting shoes but if you can get them they are highly recommended. If not a decent pair of shoes with a flat sturdy sole, rigid sides etc should be a priority.

I lift in these:

Other people recommend Chuck Taylors but I personally don't like them for lifting.

no offense, but those are some fugly sambas.

in general however, sambas are awesome for squatting/deadlifting. i would pay special attention to the insoles and upgrade/replace them as needed.
