Posted in this forum a while ago about needing a workout--and everyone suggested SS. I'm at the point right now where I am alright with my size but really just wanted to get ripped. I have all the motivation in the world to change my diet, hit the cardio hard, whatever it takes. I'm looking to you guys for a point in the right direction.

As I said a while ago, my gym is pretty lame in that they don't allow certain lifts. The atmosphere is real nice, and it's like 1/4 the cost of any other gym around me. This being said, I can't do military presses, and there's no rack for squats. If the answer is "change your gym", I'm at the point where I don't even care about spending all the extra money. I want to work and get results.

Without hopefully too much flaming, if you guys have workouts that are more based on getting cut up and not putting on mass, I'd be all over any input you can give. I'm really tired of eating semi-well, lifting a decent amount, and not getting the results I want. I'm here for all the help you vets can give (if you care to).

In before Thremp:

You need a diet, not a workout.

In after Thremp:

If it's possible, go somewhere where you can do SS, even if you do the Practical Novice Program - which is what I do. I rejected it for quite some time, but now that I've been doing it I actually wish I would have started it sooner. You will get results. You would think, "it's only 3-4 exercises, I want to work my whole body including my biceps and triceps." Coming from someone who said the same thing, SS will do everything you want it to do.

And drink Whole Milk.

I went from squatting 115lbs to 225lbs in like 4 weeks?
Benching 185 to 225.
Pressing 95 to 120.
And I rape the chinups and pullups because I'm a stud. I can probably do 20-25 on the first set on a good day. Probably do nearly 30-35 when fully rested.
Deadlift, I think I started at 135 and now I'm at 175.

Bench/Press/Dead increase slower because you're not doing them as often as squats.

Any diets you suggest? And do you agree with changing gyms and doing the SS?

If you want to get cut, you're going to need to increase muscle mass first, and then cut. Whole milk will help you do that.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Alright, so along with getting a diet plan set...do those that use SS also have some sort of cardio plan that goes along with it?

Q. Shouldn't I be running or doing some cardio?
A. It depends on what your goals are. If you are a skinny twig and looking to bulk up, cardio exercises are probably not the best for your goals. However, if you are interested in increasing your overall health/fitness or trying to lose weight then you will most likely want to do some type of cardio/aerobic exercise.
So should I do cardio on days other than my 3 lifting days for SS?

I don't do cardio. You maybe could after you sufficiently do SS for some time.

Read the SS wiki: http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi..._Strength_Wiki

Good program. Like I said above, I've been increasing my weights for 4 weeks.

You'll free up a lot of time also. If you're used to 5 days a week at the gym, you'll be anxious to get back each day when only doing 3 days/wk. Refrain from doing anymore than a M-W-F routine. You need to rest.

Miles--about 5 ft 9 in. 175 lbs.

In the last when lifting harder I was about 185 and 1rep max on bench press was 285 and squat maybe 225? For right now I would GUESS my bench is like 240ish and no idea about squat. Do I need to find 1rm before starting the SS program?

Also can someone recommend a brand of protein to buy? Is the $20 stuff worth getting? Are the 5lb $55 buckets not with it? And is there a huge difference between brand x and brand y?

If you're doing gomad, you don't need protein powder. The milk and the rest of your diet will supply more than enough protein.
