For those who don't know about this diet, it is essentially a liquid-based diet. No solids. During this time period (which is a minimum of 10 days and maximum of 40 days), you consume nothing but a solution which is a combination of water, cayenne pepper, and lemons. You cannot consume ANYTHING else other than this liquid, except water. No vitamins, alcohol, food, or other liquids of any kind. This is known as the "lemonade diet" or the "master cleanse". A friend of mine has done this diet, and has recommended it to me. I was a bit hesitant, however I did some research on it, and it seems to be legit. Many people who have completed the routine have said there are many benefits, which include: a sense of "cleansing" hense the title master cleanse, many of them quit smoking, quit the urge too eat unhealthy, have improved thinking and a clearer mental state, have tons of energy, and the temptation to eat unhealthy fatty foods nearly disappears.

I was wondering if anyone has tried this diet, and if anyone has some words of advice. I am not necessarily doing this too lose weight, I'm doing it for a change of lifestyle, eating habits, release any unwanted toxins in my body, as well as too improve my thought process. Does anyone have any advice on this diet? Is it healthy? Have you attempted it? Thoughts of before and after results? It would be great to get some information from anyone who knows of the subject. I'm also doing this as a mental test, to see if I have the ability to avoid temptation. Thanks for the advice.

Don't do it.

If you have to do it, do it for less days rather than more.

You're basically consuming water, sugar and vitamin c and nothing else for 10+ days. This can't possibly be healthier than consuming a more reasonable diet, and unless you have medical problems there is no reason to "cleanse" anything. Even if these was, this isn't the way to do it.

Level?

Go ahead and do it imo. You personally researched it so what is there to lose? Now that you know it to be legit through your research you would be insulting your own intelligence by not doing it now. I mean, it's legit right? You know this. Because you did the research.

Here is my research, from Webmd:
"Lemonade Diet: How It Works
You will lose weight on the Lemonade Diet because the fast creates a serious calorie deficit. But chances are, what you'll lose is water weight and muscle -- not the fat you want to get rid of.

During the fast, you can expect to feel hungry, and may experience headaches, fatigue, dizziness, sluggishness, diarrhea, nausea, or constipation.

The Master Cleanse Diet is supposed to "release years of built-up waste in just 10 days, while your energy soars."

Yet, experts point out, the liver already detoxifies the body. Further, there is no medical evidence that fasting or "cleansing" diets actually rid the body of any toxins not otherwise discarded in bodily waste.

"The suggestion that we are filled with toxins creates fear that drives people to these kinds of plans," says Michelle May, MD, author of Am I Hungry. "But in truth, our bodies naturally rid themselves of undesirable substances without any human intervention whatsoever."

WEBmd

My advice is don't do it. However, should you choose to do it, please report back.

You don't have to do anything to "get rid of toxins" unless you lack a functioning liver and kidneys.

This girl I know just "finished" doing it. She did it for like 4-5 days, and said she felt great and all this crap and has been hounding me and some of my friends to do it too. I just kept telling her, this is totally dumb because as soon as you get off this diet you're going to gain back everything you lost. No real doctor would ever recommend this to anyone anyway either, yet another great reason not to do it. Quick fix pussies. People will do anything they can to avoid eating right and exercising.

I had a friend at work who would do this for roughly 8-15 days at a time. I had to work directly with her and her moods would swing from chaotic to manic to angry to depressed within hours at a time throughout the day. She probably did it at least 6 times in the 4 or so years I worked with her.

She tried to convince me multiple times, and, since we're in the science field, I thought she would have done her due diligence and scientific research and looked at it objectively. It wasn't really the case.

A few points.
1)She never claimed it was a diet, and she was right in that aspect. She never lost any significant weight on it (and she was a bigger girl) and anything she lost certainly came back near immediately once she started eating again (going light soup to veggies to meat over a few days)

2)She claimed she felt lighter and emptier and cleaner - no **** you're not eating anything. Starvation actually tends to release endorphins and various other factors into the body which gives you that euphoric feeling. This is the body's way of trying to make sure you don't die. Not a good position to be in.

3)Crazy mood swings. When you're not eating anything besides maple syrup, lemon juice, cayenne pepper, and laxative tea (more on that later), your body does some weird things, like not being able to balance itself out. Leads to mood swings. Kinda tough if you have to work with other people.

4)Weird watery poops, ALL THE TIME. The exact cleanse calls for maple syrup, lemon juice, and cayenne pepper in hot water, to be drank constantly. This will already mess up your body, with the extra effect of throwing off all your gut flora and causing them to react violently to you = messy ****s and lots of them. This gets compounded by the suggestion (from the guidelines) to use laxative tea to help you clean out your gut.

5)The originator of the cleanse is a total quackjob. You can google it by typing it "The Master Cleanse" and reading his manifesto/instructions. He has an unnatural hatred of honey, and considers putting it in your body akin to eating babies. He also doesn't believe in germs or sickness or medicines, believing that sickness is just our body's way of telling us we are out of balance with ourselves and all pills are scams by pharmaceutical companies. We work FOR a pharmaceutical company. I pointed this out btw, and she poo-pah-ed it.

Anyways I can go on an on and on about it, but it's not really a good idea.

There is absolutely no correlation between a girl's science knowledge and her nutritional awareness. I know two female doctors who both subscribe to just about all the classic nutrition myths and obviously won't listen to sense whatsoever. Most girls are just messed up about food, dieting and exercise.

I was thinking about starting a thread here in mttc:

"ITT We Post Our Life Time TLB Points"

Set the parameters to Feb 1st, 2003 through today.

Just for the lulz. Good idea/bad idea?

Way to post in a random thread and referencing the wrong forum bro

Agree with kpc's fyp, although thinking logically about nutrition is especially bad for girls imo - lots of EXTRA emotions mixed in, whee.

I mean I cannot in good faith allow anyone to go through with this. It's just dangerous and the creator was a total nutjob.

Here are some choice quotes (From the late Stanley Burroughs)

What about protein? In the case of protein, Burroughs says that there is no need to worry: protein is simply nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, and carbon. The air contains all these elements. Simple by breathing “we are able to assimilate and build the nitrogen also into our bodies as protein … by natural bacteria action….”

Quote:

These toxins become crystallized and hardened, settling around the joints, in the muscles, and throughout the billions of cells all through the body … Lumps and growths are formed all over the body as storage spots for unusable and accumulated wast products … These growths and lumps appear to us as forms of fungi….Germs and viruses do not and cannot cause any of our diseases … Germs and viruses are in the body to help break down waste material and can do no harm to healthy tissues…."

"I was forced to overcome many difficult obstacles that often threatened to stop me, but I persisted in spite of the medical and legal attacks. I was told in each case I was doing too much good, and to keep me from giving the help that solved their health problems I was sent to prison so I couldn’t help anyone any more. But … many of the guards, nurses and even doctors [in prison] came to me for help that no other system could [offer]. In prison I was not competing with their medical rackets, but on the outside I hurt their con games. If my system was made legal, the medical system would be of no further need.”

In addition to promoting his lemonade concoction as being useful for detoxification, weight loss, and the cure of ulcers and leukemia, Burroughs also recommended it as a baby formula.

I mean this guy seriously could have been killing babies if people let him do it. He was right up there with Jenny Mccarthy-esque nutjob conspiracy by the medical world crazy.
