Video with some fun audio overlaid. I was listening to this while squatting. Not as awesome as you might think but still pretty motivating.

back looks slightly flexed along its entire length and hips shoot back at the bottom pretty bad. it's like a high bar squat descent with a quick shift to a slightly rounded back good morning on the way up. dunno.

I also noticed this, yes. I still have low-bar cues that need to go.

yeah. stupid hip drive imo.

That is exactly the cue that I was using that I knew I needed not to when I saw the video.

don't know if this will help but it's worth trying. exaggerate extended back position as you slowly descend to hole, pause, keep knees locked, then drive up. i still often warm up like this with my lightest 1-2 warm up sets. also i think "chest up" is more important to high bar than low bar squats.

Sounds like a good idea. I shall try this.

I feel bad for you.

it's like assani's method of trying to piece together a power clean from three separate movements, but since a squat is so much slower than a power clean it might just work.

Neck could perhaps be driven back into the bar more too perhaps?

What do you think of kraftsportno's form on youtube Miles and Kyle?

I mean it seems like he pushes hips back a fair bit at about the sticking point or so compared to actual OLY HBBS.

Yeah those are good. Probably just when hes doing low RM max efforts or fatigued last reps. He sits back way more on the heels shins get more vertical and hips shoot back.

Friday, 1/8

HB Squat
-3x5x320

Felt a bit better.

Push-Ups from Bars
-3x10

Medball stuff, weighted ball throwing program, mobility things. Was busy running the gym.

Things I learned at Home Depot today:

1) ****** plywood (CDX) is more expensive than I thought
2) My Honda Civic + Hillbilly Engineering =

As a result of #1, I am using CDX plywood only rather than two sheets of AB or finished plywood for my first platform. It's still gonna cost me like $90 when you consider the cost of other materials (liquid nails, caulk gun, wood screws) and would have been $130-140 with AB plywood.

Busy day.

Tuesday, 1/11

HB Squat
-3x5x325

Felt fine. I think I did a better job of keeping the chest up.

Bench Press
-5x5x195

Super light.

Power Clean
-a bunch of stuff
-3x1x180

Fairly light.

Medball scoop tosses, OH slams, mobility work, band work, etc.

Took some BP off a tee after all the lifting, building my new squat rack (woo lat pulldown / low row pulley), and platform. Was bad. But have some neat video I'll splice together to show a minor mechanical change in effect.

Some bad iPhone pics of the facility, new squat rack, and platform in progress:

Getting busy. Four full-time baseball clients, one old baseball client preparing for college ball, one track and field athlete, and a bunch of drop-in friends. Place is slightly profitable but still running at a loss due to purchasing equipment / repairing stuff / securing the weight lifting area (need to do that this weekend).

Very tiring but also a lot of fun. Maybe in a few years it'll be good enough to do full-time, write freelance code, and gamble. Most likely not. But it's fun all the same.

disappointment of the day:

plywood platform does not make a characteristic olympic thump when you don't have hard-sole shoes.

Screwed in the platform today and it worked pretty well. Corners were coming up some, so I just need to weight them down with plates and it's all good.

Wednesday, 1/12

Took some BP, caught a bullpen, and threw on the side.

Power Clean
-stuff including some jerks @ 155
-1x180
-1x185
-1x190

Felt good. I attribute it to the platform.

Deadlift
-2x3x365

Been like four months since I've pulled heavy, so I took it easy. Light enough.

Push-Ups from Bars
-2x10

Medball scoop toss and OH slams, mobility work.

That's good to know. Just remember, you can do this well into the 3rd trimester if it's OK with the OB/GYN.
