Sounds like it's as good of an outcome as can be Monte. glgl.

She's at the hospital getting checked out right now, but nothing too serious it seems. I'll ask her how low she can air-squat after/if she's discharged to completely close the thread zeitgeist loop when possible.

Stay safe out there bros.
Hope she's k.

Pretty much this exact thing happened to me, non-zero chance it's why my neck is still ****ed up. In my case it was a large van... no license, no insurance, I don't really remember what my copays were, but iirc around a couple of thousand. I went to her court appearance and her total fine was $220 and my insurance didn't sue her. I was so pissed! Seems like it paid off for her. Worst part was, my buddy and I were in my car on the way back to watch Commando and we didn't get to watch it. "Poker pro".... more like TV/movie expert ime.

She's waiting for x-ray results and then should be able to go home. No organ issues or concussion signs as of yet, which, considering how fast the guy seems to have been going and that the airbag deployed, is a good sign.

Pretty interested to see the insurance fall out from this, given she was pushed into the car in front of her, which was also completely stopped. I'd always heard that you're technically at fault in that situation since you are responsible for controlling your car regardless, but apparently the cop thought otherwise. Not that I really ultimately care about any potential premium increase; this is more a way to use my spergers to self soothe my worry. At least this next flight is first class.
I was pushed into the car in front of me, too. Insurance didn't give me a hard time about this, so I wouldn't worry about that. Idk if my insurance went up. Probably. In my case, a ~42 weeks pregnant lady gets out of the car in front of me and starts yelling at... me. lol. I was like... "Lady..." She and baby were k tho iirc. The van behind didn't brake and was going ~30-35 police thought... Chicago police were super nice to me, cop came by hospital to see if I was ok, she also showed up in court. /csb.

I just posted again to keep up with you! No but really, I don't have energy to scream into a wall most of the time any more. Maybe I'll get back to it if something interesting happens.

Hope the wifeacore is ok.

Montecore,

Hoping for the best all around.

Downtown,

Commando is very good. Sorry you missed it. I highly recommend it if you still haven't seen it yet.

Not shooting someone isn't some clever strategy I have to save myself potential problems down the road. Not shooting someone is something I'm doing because I value the life of a stranger, even a thief, as being worth more than a mountain bike.

In my experience the % dickhead in any group in order of decreasing dickhead/100 persons is pedestrian, cyclist, motorist. You can scarcely drive a block in downtown Chicago without a pedestrian stepping out in front of a green light or jay walking in front of moving traffic. The principal deterrent for drivers is to make pedestrians think that they will literally hit them.

Trunk being destroyed means that the car did it's job by absorbing a lot of the energy from the collision rather than transferring the energy into the passenger cabin. In my experience of a no fault collision my insurance company sued the gentleman's for my deductible so I saved myself $500 there. But because I had now been involved in a recent accident, even though I was not at fault my insurance premiums went up so. I didn't do the math but that almost certainly cost me more than that $500 deductible over the course of my policy. Big insurance wins again. God bless America.

Glad everyone seems K.

Oddly enough, I know one other 2p2er in Indianapolis area and his wife got rear-ended by a truck last week on the south side. Apparently that was a hit-and-run but the truck was eventually found.

Luckily it sounds like both wives were not injured.

Just landed, wifeacore has been recently discharged with no broken bones or fractures.

Thanks for all the support.

DT,

I'm sorry for your loss; Commando is ****ing awesome. Maybe you should let off some steam tonight and watch it.

Re: insurance of the driver, it was a commercial vehicle (F-250 from a landscaping company), so the cop was saying some or part of this would likely be covered by the business's liability insurance, which I guess is probably better? The guy was saying he "didn't see brake lights" to which the guy in front of my wife apparently essentially said "k, we were both completely stopped at a traffic light, bro.". I'd bet a fair bit of course he was on his phone.

AIOTT,

Word re: energy dissipation, that's what it seems like happened. I doubt I'll see the car again anyway. My deductible is going to go up anyway since our car is going to be newer, so whatever. Small rock.

Glad she appears OK - you should have nothing to worry about on the insurance front. Person (and their insurance) who rearended her should take responsibility for damages to all vehicles/people. That's how most companies would handle....she was stopped in traffic, would be difficult to assign her a % of fault for being stopped.

Sounds like that was a while ago (Commando FTW) and there are more strict
laws in place if you get in accident w/out insurance (lose license, like a DUI or reckless driving) in my northern Chicago burb state. Also, companies aren't likely to try and squeeze blood from the turnip (person who didn't have/couldn't afford insurance to begin with not likely to have a bunch of cash to pay damages. In all my years I knew 1 person who was uninsured that made payments of $100/month out of pocket for maybe a couple years before stopping the damage payments to the insurance company.

Bros,
Naturally I finished Commando. Pls.

It would be very hard to assign the wifecore any liability here. That said, there is no guarantee that rates aren't going go up as a result. That's a policy services/underwriting thing and I'm just a claims supervisor. Probably won't know until your next renewal though regardless.

Car absolutely did what it was supposed to do. Modern automobiles are designed to absorb the energy first and then send it around the passenger compartment not directly in to the human. Most important thing is no injuries. Still might worth looking in to a BI claim.

Funny story with bikes and alcohol: We spent this past weekend on our sailboat at Mackinac Island. Watched a guy get what I assume was a drunken disorderly or something along those lines after crashing on his bike leaving the bar.

Just kinda funny as there are no automobiles on the island. It's horse or bike. And this dumb ****er still managed to get arrested.

In some countries, a DUI on a bike can result in a car license suspension, or so I'm told. I have no idea what would happen here. I have seen some very drunk people on bikes, especially since Austin added the bike share system down town.
06-27-2017 , 04:59 PM
That would be pretty awesome if I ran down a cyclist and the cyclist had been drinking and was hit with full liability. Almost like in literally any other situation.
06-27-2017 , 05:03 PM
I've never driven a car drunk but I've driven a bicycle drunk in both Chicago and Austin. In Chicago I was like, man that was dumb I'm not gonna do that again I might die someday. In Austin I was like "YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAW" and I fired my pistol into the air so that people knew that I was also from Texas.

And also my bicycle was a horse

In Michigan I don't think you can get a DUI on a bike. The key word is "motor" in our legal system.

They can still get you for other charges though.

Confirmed loss of license for drunk biking here.

Well, guess it's time for you to die Rustly.

Welp, woke up today with a throbbing in my head. Assumed it was because I cracked too many cold ones, so drank some water and took an advil. BUT IT DID NOT WORK!

It appears that while I did crack some cold ones there was another underlying issue making my head hurt. I slept weird and now my neck hurts (left side). Luckily I rubbed it with a lax ball and now I'm fine.

jk. I did rub it with a lax ball but it obviously didn't do **** other than make my trap feel kinda numb. Seems like it'll either 1) get better (most likely without me doing anything) 2) Not get better (most likely with me seeking expert medical opinions and qqing for years of my life).
