First day of logging everything using the Lose It app. It's easy to use and has what seems like a pretty comprehensive library. Finished wish a nice deficit. Or surplus. Which is it? Anyway....1921 cals on the day. Since I'm logging there, I'm not going to post everything I ate here, but I will highlight what I consider to be good choices when bad choices would have been much easier.

Today our daughter had a milestone, and Catholics will know what I mean when I say it was her first reconciliation at Church. Nothing big, no party or anything, but she asked if we could go to Red Robin for lunch afterwards. We did, and instead the burger, onion rings, and milkshake I wanted, I opted for their Simply Grilled Chicken sandwich. I did have fries, but didn't take advantage of the "bottomless refills" on them. I got in and out for just under 700 calories. It's out of the norm for us to go out to places like this, but I'm glad I was able to make it fit.

Btw, 5.5oz roasted chicken breast, 3/4 cup brown rice, roasted cauliflower and onions for dinner. 458 cal dinner after a heavier lunch.

cashy,

you're 100% right, next time he orders a pizza he should definetely dissect the ****er and weigh every layer/component individually and ask the mom and pop running the place for exact recipe for everything.
maybe send a sample to a foodlab too for exact measuring / nutritional profile, as well.

See, I'm not opposed to him learning how much calories are in dough/crust, tomato-sauce, different kinds of cheeses and toppings or what have you.
That's something he'll learn along the way. Especially as he seems to be a fairly active cook himself.

Just saying using X * Y = calories, where X is weight or a slice or whatever and Y is kcals/100 grams or kcals/slice or whatever, is accurate enough for our purposes here. You make it sound like it's a very wild guess at best which is utter bollocks.
Aaaaand being able to estimate mass/energy content of an item on the fly is a skill one learns through weighing stuff and looking things up.

jal,

deficit.
keep at it.

na you are 100% right he should have a huge food-scale with him at all times so he can weigh his food in a frigging restaurant instead of eyeballing it, jesus.

at home:
weigh everything individually(and learn to eyeball accurately along the way)

in a restaurant:
roughly eyeball

Well, beating a dead horse / splitting hairs is fun for only so long so let's agree to disagree although I'm not even sure if we're really disagreeing about anything at this point.

On a related note, anyone remember who it was who brought his own food-scale to a AYCE sushi place?
I swear I seen it mentioned in one of the past LC-threads.

Yep. I brought my food scale and took pics. Even though it was impossible to record the true cals & macros, just going through the process helped to keep me from eating everything.

I was holding myself accountable. It was pretty fun. Gotta do it again soon.

Thanks for the reminder!

fwiw, I haven't brought the scale to other restaurants. I try to find the nutritional info on the restaurant's website or find similar items in the calorie counting app. I don't eat out often, so it's not a big deal for me, though.

I definitely just over indulged. Fortunately, it was on roasted butternut squash! Cup and a quarter for 100 cal. Hot damn. It kept me away from the popcorn I made for the kids as a movie snack. I don't do microwaves, only real deal hot oil stove top popcorn, so I think it was good to stay away from that.

The pizza I get is 3,200 calories for a large. So I know 2 pieces (maybe 3) is my limit (800-1,200 cals). That's a large with pepperoni, sausage, olives, onions, cheese, peppers, etc. Pretty loaded I guess.

Damn. That pizza sounds friggin awesome. I haven't had pizza loaded like that since college!

We usually just get plain but I love sausage and peppers sometimes. The meal is question I just had peppers for obv reasons.

Just had dinner. A really good day. 1670 cals and I feel full. Skipped carbs again with dinner...5oz lean sirloin steak with a red wine reduction, and a mountain of yellow squash and onions lightly sautéed. No bread. No potato. Weird. But good.

Good lunch too...4oz tuna and 1/2 cup chick peas, cubanelle peppers with lemon juice, a drizzle of olive oil, and a negligible amount of my homemade hot sauce (the stuff is wicked). I had that with 2 slices whole wheat toast.

Like a said, since I'm logging my intake on the app, I'm not going to list everything I eat here, but I will throw in some of my meals that are worth posting. I love bringing the flavor. I don't know how people do this without cooking for theirselves.

you sure you calculated calories correctly? extremely low calories coupled with "not even hungry" always makes me highly suspicious to say the least(I would feel like starving on those calories)
a lot of the small stuff people often disregard add up really quickly.

Nah man. I got it all. Even the teaspoon of olive oil w lunch, and the went back and changed my butternut squash snack from 1 1/4 cups to 2 cups when I had more. The fully full statement is a direct result of the mass of yellow squash and onions at dinner, and I had just finished it. Very low cal and filled me up.

aura,

That's dedication at its finest IMO. No half-assing.
I vaguely recalled it mighta been you, just wasn't sure.

jal,

Looks good although 1.7k cals is very low for a ~275 lb'er.
Do you have any plans to get back into the habit of lifting things at some point?

I'll post updated weight on Monday mornings.

286lbs 1/5 starting weight
276lbs 1/12
273lbs 1/19

I'm disappointed in this number only because I was two pounds less on Saturday. I got heavy handed with salt over the weekend and slowed down my water intake when away from my desk. That's probably a recipe for disaster.

Maybe start weighing yourself every morning and use rolling average of last 7 days for any given Monday weight update.
Evens out the day-to-day variance nicely.

So, disturbing revelation... I've certainly noticed that with less food, less fatty food, and no coffee, I've been crapping way less. I was a pretty standard 2-3 per day crapper. I'm now averaging probably 6 a week. That's a BIG change.

This morning I decided to budget some cals on an iced coffee with half and half. I've destroyed the bathroom twice already. Like I'm having a brown baby. I definitely weigh less that I did this morning! I actually feel lighter.

Feedback? Sorry for the disgusting topic.

Don't sweat the day to day variance. Normally id say to only weigh yourself once a week but for you I think every day isn't such a bad idea. I doubt you'll go off the rails if you inexplicably gain 3 lbs in one day and you'll figure out how big the swongs are while trending downward

Also, why on earth would you give up coffee????

kinda grunching thread but if you weigh yourself daily (which is fine imo), keep a running weekly average, and don't sweat the day to day too much. But every sunday (or whatever day) when you calculate your average, you should be seeing a downward trend.

Basically, I wasn't a coffee drink, a was a 400cal coffee flavored milkshake drinker. My go to was a large or med Dunkin iced coffee with XX cream and X sugar. At least 10 a week. I committed to kicking that first and foremost and replacing with hot tea with a splash of skim milk and 15cal of raw unrefined sugar, or unsweetened iced tea.
