Good to hear your oblique is pretty much good to go. Hoping to see some heavy front squats whenever you are ready for those

Thanks busto, I was happy I held together. I compete again this coming weekend and then I have several weeks off so I'll try to get a good front squat in for you

Competing this weekend at the Kentucky Renaissance Festival in Eminence, Kentucky.

Just four Pros competing, all getting paid the same, so there probably won't be any huge throws. I'm just looking to stay injury free.

I hate the Ren Festivals, but most of them have a 'Highland' weekend, so we often get asked to run a game there.

I'm probably looking more forward to watching the fight tomorrow night than competing, lol.

I think we're all just making an appearance fee of $400 + hotel and food. It's only about a 2 hour drive for me too.

From earlier in the thread:

Typically, lodging and travel are covered for every Pro comp, and usually the biggest money I make at any single event is ~$2k. Smallest is maybe $350ish. Winning the national champs is good for about $3.5k. Not overly big money, but better than a usual Saturday of poker.....for me

How many of these things do you do in a year?

Are your longterm goals purely strength for the sake of strength, or do you envision competing in something else?

The most competitions I've ever done in a season (April-October) was 23. I had much less real life responsibility then though, lol.

Currently, I try to do about 10-12 games a season.

Strength for the sake of strength, if I had to answer now, but I suppose you never know what will come along. If there is a strongman comp, or powerlifting comp (although extremely unlikely that I would ever do PL), or something else that I found interesting and I thought I was suited for, I'd give it a go. I'm spoiled in the way that I'm a Pro and I make a little money with my athletics, and the thought of paying to do something else sort of makes me cringe.

I really enjoy abusing my body and moving heavy weights around. I like being strong. It's never enough. I can't see me ever not wanting to push it in the gym. I have gym goals (read: strength) that I think are attainable, and I'll keep after them for as long as it takes, and then new ones will be forever ongoing after that. That being said I'm sure there will come a time when I don't want to be 300lbs+, if not only for general health, but also because it's just hard to go out and play a game of basketball, or walk the stairs without breathing hard, or tying my shoes without doing it in multiple reps, lol. I suspect when that day comes I'll have to re-evaluate how strong I think I should be.

Just reframe your goals to BW ones. Or become DeMichelle, its pretty easy. Just stop eating. If you get depressed, eat for a few days, then stop again.

Just curious about long term goals. I'm unsure anyone here trains for much more than physical non-sexual masturbation. I guess a couple people do (I think our fearless mod is gonna compete in Olytarding), but whatev.

Yea, that's what I would have to do. That stop eating thing would never work

I've always said I would retire from Highland Games when I was no longer competitive. I don't wanna be the guy that hangs around past his prime. I think I've at least got a few years to go. Even then though I doubt my focus or goals in the gym will change much. I like that aspect of it too much.

7/3/10 & 7/4/10 Kentucky Ren Pro/Am, Eminence, KY

Braemar Stone (22lbs) - 39'+, 39'+, 41'4" (1st)
Open Stone (16lbs) -50'+, 50'+, 52'4.5"'+ (1st) (52'1.5", 51'11" on extras)
56 WFD - 39'+, 39'+, 44'7.5" (1st) (44'5", 44'2.5" on extras)
28 WFD - 78'+, 78'+, 84'3" (2nd)
16 Hammer - 122'+, 113'+, 125'9.5" (1st)
22 Hammer - 104'+, 98'+, 106'2" (1st)
Caber - 12:00 (1st)
20 Sheaf - 29' (2nd)
56 WOB - 15' (2nd)

Overall - 1st

Well, this was the first game where I was 100% healed up and healthy. Pretty happy overall with how I threw, although there is always a few exceptions to that (WOB particularly).

Was really hot and humid 90°+ both days. The ground was also really hard and dry, which is good except for the hammers. I threw the light hammer without my boot blades as there was just no digging in at all.

All in all, making progress I think. I don't compete again until July 23, so I get three weeks of gym time. Looking forward to it!

Couple throws with the 56lb. weight from this weekend:

Oh, and also, I dunno if anyone is a wrestling fan or not here but I look over near the end of the day and Al Snow and his wife are standing by watching. I talked to him for a little bit and tried to get him to come throw something with us...he declined, lol.
