How much exercise depends on how your body feels. But usually 1 hour per day is enough. Some people like to do strength training for an hour and then 30 minutes of cardio after.

I'd suggest home dvd workout programs like P90X or Insanity. They have a clear schedule that's easy to follow, but their sessions are really tough they will kick your butt. I usually recommend this because the workouts and schedule are clear cut, and all you have to do is show up.
