How to cope with loneliness? How to cope with loneliness?

I grind mtt's for a living and my day usually looks like this

-> Wake up 4pm
-> Go to supermarket/restaurant
-> Start the grind 6pm
-> End the grind at 2-4am
-> browse the internet til 6am (what else to do at middle of the night??)

I have tried to wake up early countless times but i always end up with a ****ed sleep schedule after 2 or 3 days.

I have no girlfriend or pet.

I don't have any friends in poker.

I get to see my friends usually once a week (friday or saturday at the bar)

I used to work a regular job and after talking with all the colleagues/clients for 8 hours straight, which i enjoyed, i had no need to socialize after work during the weekdays.

What to do?

If you grind MTT's how does your day/week look?

A lot will depend on where you live. If you live in a city I'd be trying to incorporate something in after you finish grinding just to get some contact with people. Try and find a bar that caters to hospitality workers as these places stay open late and it's not weird to pop in and have a couple of drinks after work in the wee hours. You don't even need to drink booze just chat and find someone to play pool with.

Meet up groups could also be an option and I would look into joining a 24 hour gym to do something healthy after you finish work. Social interaction is so important and it's easy to become a recluse grinding. Gl.

You need to take a break and go outside during your grinding. Take a walk and grab a bite around 10-11.

And u don’t need to sleep until 4pm every day. Make up a new schedule/guidelines so there is quality of life.

Also,

If you join a gym and go on a reg schedule you’ll find friendly people there whether u like it or not.

Get a dog if your apartment allows it. People (not me!) are friendly to dogs and dog walkers. Plus of course the dog itself would keep your loneliness at bay.

Volunteer! Walk dogs at a local animal shelter.

Now get out of your goddamn apartment and take a walk.

OP,

I lived your lifestyle. Try to end the grind sooner and get to bed soon after then wake by 12-1. That will give you time to run errands, go to gym. I like rock climbing indoors, it’s relatively safe, challenging in a way similar to poker, and you meet tons of people doing it.

I actually am about to start grinding part time now and I don’t intend on being up later than Midnight. Waking past 10am is not consistent with a lifestyle that will make me happy right now. Just seeing the daylight means something

Also maybe quit poker and get another job

If you want to push back that 6am bed time to 2am you may need a sleep med for a period.

Question:
Are you generically using the term 'grind' or do you truly mean that? And what *I* mean is that my interpretation of the term 'grind' is the same as someone working paycheck to paycheck. The money comes in and it already is out the door because your cash flow is such that your expenses are non-stop. There's never a time where your expenses are paid off and you get the opportunity to actually save.

I agree with Josie. Walking is great! Almost impossible to feel bad after a long walk ime.

There are MTTs going until 2-4am? In the U.S.? Seems like the better structured tourneys would have noontime starts. Anyway, I'd consider forcing a change in your body clock. Being awake when everyone else is asleep, and vice versa isn't going to lead to a very active social life no matter how you slice it.
