Saw a dude at my gym yesterday doing sets of 25 dips. He only had 1 hand. He just manned up and balanced the stump on the bar.

Pretty inspiring.

Maybe I'm just not flexible/strong enough yet?
Ankle flexibility has a lot to do with it, otherwise they basically act like springs pushing you backwards. Get lifting shoes with heels, or put 2.5lb plates under your heels to make hitting depth easier. Also do ankle stretches.

Other things you can do is just stay at the bottom of the squat with low weights, and work on depth/balance. Also you can put a loaded bar on safety bars, get in the front squat position and push yourself down with your arms. Or just hold on to the side of a power/squat rack and get low (kind of like the stripper move). Basically if your goal is to get low, you'll have to work on the low position without a lot of weight first.

Some ****ing douchebags got on the gymnast rings and swung around like ****ing monkeys until they kicked a ****ing hole in the ****ing wall. What the ****? The gym has since patched the hole in the wall, except some **** has taken the rings out again and kicked another ****ing hole in the wall. What the **** is wrong with people?

On a positive note, saw a very fit girl doing frog leap squats today. She'd leap 6 or so feet forward, then land by dropping into a full bum on the floor squat, repeat. I was like

Also wish to note that while I was working out on the gymnast rings, a boxer came over to work out on the heavy punching bag, which is only a few feet away from the rings. ****ty placement is ****ty placement. I tapped the guy to tell him that I was swinging around close to him but would do my best to stay out of his way. His response: "No way man, I'll try to stay out of yours."

Too much to ask for everyone to be like this? Respect the space of the people around you.

There was that time I went to the gym black out drunk, but all I did was put all the plates on the squat bar and leave.

Would get behind appointing this guy Czar of "Sack the **** Up and Get On With It". He'd be in charge of yelling that at people who desperately need it. First stop: daytime TV talk shows.

guy was 3 nanometers from the mirror behind the cable station staring longingly into his own eyes for several minutes before attempting to carve striations into his nonexistent delts.

he wasn't psyching himself up or anything, just like, grokking himself and being groovy.

.
Share your brothers story? Pretty sure the word gay has not been taken offensively in years. Maybe I'm wrong.

I threw 6 interceptions as a senior and 2 were to a guy with one hand. Maybe the same guy.

Sharing bench with another dude. His knife falls out of his pocket during a set, then he walks away for a drink. Did the nice thing obviously, hid it behind the bench leg and told him he dropped it.

You are wrong, it very much is taken offensively. Or at least, the way you used it is. Saying someone is gay, if accurate, is not offensive. But mocking people whose workout at the gym you don't like as gay very much is offensive.

The average high school kid incredibly hears such an anti-gay expression 25 times a day and using the word gay as a synonym for something bad, like you did, absolutely does contribute to the stigma against gay people and contributes to the pretty shocking stats about the quality of life of gay kids.

I get that you didn't mean anything by this, and I get that playing the "politically correct" card is obnoxious and rarely appreciated, but there is just no need to use this word as an insult and you really should stop.

Depends how you use it. You can either use it as an an accurate identifier like "i am queer" or "he is queer" and indeed the word is the Q in the LGBTQ umbrella. It is become less common, but you can also use it synonymous with "odd". However you wouldn't want to use it to reference something that has nothing to do with the "odd" connotation or the LGBTQ connotation and make a big negative with the implication that queer people are negative . Likewise with "gay" where you should not use the word as an insult synonymous with "lame" or whatever else.

Went to globo-ish gym in Chicago while visiting last week. Guy (28ish, decent shape) doing 300+ lb squats with good form and coming WAY out behind the squat rack (prob 5' behind), like blocking the entire passageway in this area.

Event 1) I stand 5ish ft behind back of rack and he tells me he's squatting there, please move

2) I'm doing a CF WOD (Fran!) and bar moves a bit mid-workout. If you drew a rectangle extended 8 ft from back of squat rack it would've probably occupied less than 1 ft^2 in a corner. He got semi-annoyed and told me to move it, so I moved it without speaking.

3) I finish said WOD and am completely dead/unaware of surroundings, sit down directly in his squat area (while he's resting/nowhere near bar)! Guy now gets very angry -- "man this is how people get hurt, what are you thinking?"

4) I'm still super exhausted so don't say anything but start backing up very slowly using hands/butt. "I'm gonna kill you!" he says. So at this point I yell back "I'M MOVING!!" and accelerate my butt-slide pace.

Can see how he'd be annoyed at that point but seemed like a pretty absurd overreaction given that he was never actually squatting/near bar when I was in his zone.
