I mean seriously have you never had the situation reversed on you?
So you're saying I should stop half way through my filling of water and let the person go? If for some reason I have a huge ass water bottle and JUST started filling it up I have had no problem go ahead and have a drink

I've said it before I constantly let people go ahead of me if we get there at about the same time.

But let's not even begin to discuss the bad etiquette that everyone has at the gym. This is hardly bad etiquette

i mean usually people just take 2 seconds to take a drink, so i would just let them, then go back to filling my bottle. it's just common courtesy. i wouldn't say you're an ******* if you don't, but i would. that's just me.

if you're stuck behind a guy filling a bottle and can't wait a minute (at most) to get a drink, then whip out your dick and drink your piss. only reasonable alternative, imo.

seriously.

Just depends on how long it will take you to finish versus how long it will likely take them.

Same thing happens at the grocery store. If you have a cart crammed with dozens of items and the guy behind you has like two items, seems like common courtesy to let him go ahead of you.

Or at a casino cage if you to do some combo deposit/wire that takes like 20 minutes and the guy behind you has a few chips he wants to cash.

etc. etc.

you earlier said 20-30 seconds of wait time for the guy behind you. yes, you should get off the fountain.

I can't believe this.

I'm back in the capital and went to the university gym. First I see a girl doing some kind of clean&jerk, I have no knowledge of these so not sure what it was exactly but it's probably the last thing you'd ever see at this gym. After this I start talking with a guy asking if we can alternate doing squats (only 1 rack at the gym). After he starts doing OHP's I ask him if he's doing some kind of program and voilà, turns out he's doing SS as well.

I see a rainbow...

What's with the db who likes to rack and unrack his weights loudly and without care on purpose? Talk about attention whore. Some ****nut was in the squat rack next to me doing squats about a foot high (not joking), and he worked up to 365 lb squats this way. Everytime he'd rack or unrack something it would either be slammed on the bar, dropped and slammed into the weight tree pole, or dropped on the ground from hang height, and he was doing this like he was some kind of bad ass.

Srsly guy, guy srsly?

Oh and great finisher. His gf starts working out with him about 30 minutes later, and they go to do squats and she is hitting parallel ezpz-like and he's standing behind her like he's spotting her and giving her tips.

These types of extremely submaximally-loaded odd movements are roughly equivalent to the stresses encountered when taking the groceries out of the back seat, or walking through a crowded bar without spilling your beer

Must people really lift up their shirts to check out their abs in the mirror between sets?

at least most people have the decency to do it surreptitiously, there is a dude at my gym that straight up admires, multiple times during his work out, for 5-10 seconds each time

One of the PTs doing umm, negative stiff-leg DLs (hes standing on a box so the plates can go past the "floor"). Gets On the box, picks up the weight, then from that moment on the plates are nowhere near to going past the "floor" let alone past his shoes. Drops weight (60kgs, no bumper plates) from that height for extra emphasis. Was like he was doing them on a pedestal or something.

Finish my workout, go into locker to change my shirt. A bro walks in behind me, having just finished his workout as well, quiet guy and all, no hassles. As SOON as he takes off his shirt though he starts making noises like a steam train or when hes about to 1/4 squat his 60kgs, looking in the mirror furiously. This goes on until I leave the locker room, but I can still hear him on my way out.

Weird.

Had my first curls in the squat rack experience in a while today... I asked the guy how long he had left and he said a couple of sets, so I politely suggested that he use the spare olympic bar over there as he was occupying our gym's only squat rack.... and he happily did. Score one for manners and a polite demeanor over the passive-aggressive 'look mean and badass' option that Ive seen lots of people advocate in this thread, haha.

Well actually he opted to curl on the smith machine instead of using the spare bar, but the net result was the same for me. Apparently you cant just pick 30kg up off the floor??

no one would suggest any kind of aggression in your situation. that whole issue was amazingly misunderstood imo.

30 kgs is heavy **** man. Also I doubt ISF would advocate a mean mother****er strategy in this specific instance, heh.

Well, the college gym staff is usually really cool and not gay about things like chalk and deadlifts and collars while benching. Today though some girl who's constantly giving me **** for any minor thing she can, though she is really cute, told me to stop using chalk because it's messy and to do deadlifts in the rack so that I'm not slamming the weights against the floor. Oh well, at least this one waited until I finished my set and didn't get in my face about it. I'll probably just move my deadlifts to monday since I think she only works Tuesday/Thursday and none of the other staff who have been working there for a bit longer ever bother me about it. There's no way I'm going to start using straps and only do rack deadlifts because some girl who likely doesn't actually work out told me to, ldo. Still gets really annoying. I want to get a shirt with the following text from starting strength printed on it and wear it every deadlift day.

"Setting the bar down fast in the deadlift is actually okay. Since the deadlift starts as a
concentric movement, much of the effect of the deadlift is due to the hard initial position and the lack of help from a stretch reflex during the lift, as discussed above. Setting it down slowly will make it harder, and some people might benefit from the extra work, but the emphasis in the deadlift is picking up heavy weights. As the weight increases, bar speed will decrease with the difficulty. Setting it down slowly uses up too much gas that could be better used picking up your next rep, As long as some modicum of control is exercised, it can be dropped as fast as you are capable of doing safely, with the back in good position according to our previous analysis. Going down fast with poor control is, of course, hard on your kneecaps and shins. And depending on the type of plates being used and the nature of the platform surface, a poorly controlled bounce can cause problems. But in general, a deadlift can, and probably should, go down faster than it comes up."

Tell her chalk is a safety issue. Who cares about mess since safety is way more important?
