Do you guys know anything about High Intensity Training (HIT) weight training?

Just curious.
I'm probably going to get flamed for questioning his exalted holieness Mr Rippetoe but here goes.
Have any of you guys had any experience of using High Intesity Training for weights? Bodybuilder's Mike Metzner's creation?
Just came across it.Looks crazy.
It's basically 1 set of between 8-12 reps to TOTAL failure with fairly few basic exercises and perfect form preformed fairly slowly.
eg.1 workout i saw had you doing one pullup with the up motion 30secs and the down motion 30secs.
or doing pullups weighted or otherwise until you hit failure at ~8 rep mark.
