i was just reading up about the post work out protein shakes, so i'm looking into doing this. one of the articles, and a number of people, talked about adding dextrose, but i can't really seem to find where to get this locally.

do they sell this at GNC? Vitamin cottage or the likes? their websites say nothing, but maybe it's called something else.

CarboGain

type it directly into google

yes, it's pretty much sugar, don't use it UNLESS you've plateaued and cannot gain weight.

lol what part is false?

I said don't take it unless you feel like you've plateaued, a disclaimer would be it's very easy to put on fat using it IF you do not work out very hard.

I think bulknutrition.com has it. It's probably not available locally.

It's a pretty standard part of PWO shakes, which take even more importance if you are dieting (and most likely limiting carb intake).

Try a bulk food store. Here we have a chain called Bulk Barn that carries it. I think it's labeled as "corn sugar".

spiking insulin levels isn't for someone trying to limit carb intake, even post workout.

I used mono-dextrose and carbogain for 3 months when I was 145lbs at 5'10" with little musclemass. I worked out on a big time 5x5 strength regimen and frankly I had trouble gaining still.

I still have the stuff in my house but I don't think I'll ever use it again, it did make the shakes taste great though.

I thought everyone on this board was super-duper anti-sugar-anything? seems like fairly open-minded responses.

two times when sugar is ok, pwo and a little at breakfast with the rest of your food but that's just my opinion. oh and ice cream with pistachios late night saturday before bed is ok too.

dextrose = corn sugar
maltodextrin = corn starch
bulk nutrition stores in your area will have it and they're super cheap

Brewers use dextrose to make beer. My roommate used to brew a lot and I'd mooch off his supply that he got from the beer brewing store.

remember the days when a supplement company would charge 5x more for "pre-mixed" creatine? that muscletech cell-tech stuff.

Always would lol @ the musclehead dummies at my high school who would buy that instead of pure creatine and a $1 bag of dextrose from a bulk food store.

local brew shop/local stores brewing section --> look for brewing sugar that is 100% dextrose or a combination of dextrose and malto-dextrin. $2 for 2.2lb's

Anybody who is selling dextrose as a supplement is just ripping you off, it is extremely cheap.

Thoughts on taking pure maltodextrin PWO? Does it differ from dextrose in any significant way?

From what I've researched taking malto with sucrose is the way to go. Source: bodybuilding.com

Now that I actually bothered Wiki'ing it dextrose = glucose = soda and people on these forums have been saying not to consume excess calories in the form of soda. Although PWO is definitely a different matter tho as glycogen levels have to be restored.

Does it stay suspended when you buy the pre-mixed stuff? My cmh powder just falls to the bottom.
