Coffee, good or bad? Coffee, good or bad?

08-30-2011 , 03:50 PM
Just wanted to get some opinions on benefits or risks of drinking coffee. I used to drink coffee with milk and sugar, probably 3 cups a day. I switched to one cup a day, black no additives and I wash it down with a cup of water. I like the taste a lot better and I can actually tell the difference between good and bad coffee. I've read something a while ago that coffee helps the digestive system, other than caffeine I cant see any harm to your body. Its just grains poured over with boiling water. Right?

Something about bladder stones or something yada yada, but as long as you're drinking it black I don't see any other major health detriments, and if you're only doing one cup a day god bless you cuz I do way above and beyond that , so you're probably safe. But I'm not a doctor and I don't play one on anything other than my g/f

There were a ton of good coffee benefits published, esp iirc helps with preventing prostate cancer, heart disease and diabetes. Plus like 2 billion ppl drink it, so drink up

Coffee is full of antioxidants and is definitely healthy. How much is too much? I'm not sure but if you are drinking one cup black each morning you are definitely doing a good thing for your body, so drink up!

coffee is pretty well established to be good for you. just don't go too nuts with cups/day and know you might get a headache for a day or two if you don't have it. you will also have coffee breath.

coffee is nasty...caffeine pills are good though

Also, the knee-jerk reaction that I get from people when I mention caffeine pills is always amusing.

I've never had a full cup of coffee, only sips. It tastes awful (ldo) and everyone around me seems super addicted to it and are for sure dependent on it.

Tbh I don't know if it's "good" or "bad" for you in terms of research. But I don't like the idea of being dependent on something like that chemically.

I don't consume almost any caffeine at all. I get all hopped up and then crash if it's a soda. Maybe someday I'll try something like black tea consistently. I have no idea wtf I'd do if I drank a full cup of coffee. Probably get all psycho.

What color dress do you prefer?

I dont know anyone "addicted" to it. Sure its present at offices and what not, but I know 0 ppl who have any issues with not having coffee for a day. Im sure there are tons of ppl, but there are ppl addicted to anything.

I can get a headache which varies from mild to nasty if I don't have any coffee in a day. But lol being dependent on it, come on Yugo. Anyways, lots of delicious liquids and food (cognac, wine, sushi etc) requires some period of initial adjustment before you come to appreciate the awesomeness.

Yeah I've never heard someone say "oh god I haven't had my coffee for the day blah blah blah"

Go find a source saying caffeine isn't one of the 15 most addictive substances out there.

Everyone you know who drinks coffee regularly is addicted to it. Caffeine is addictive by definition of what type of substance it is.

I don't really want to troll so I you probably mean something else. Maybe like you don't know anyone whose life is affected adversely by caffeine. Imo, just being addicted to it counts as an adverse affect. But I definitely understand the pros of caffeine could potentially outweigh whatever cons there are.

I'm not surprised most people are posting that they think it's awesome. I'm sure I would too if I took it. But of course, I'd be addicted if I took it and much more likely to think that. At the same time, just the fact that it's addictive doesn't mean it doesn't have merit. But it shouldn't be ignored.

The juxtaposition between that comment and the next sentence is nice .

It seems like an obvious assumption to me that people who drink coffee regularly are dependent on it. The degree of dependency varies, but I mean, there are few daily choices people make that they are more fundamentally dependent on (eating & sleeping I guess).

Should be pretty obvious that I meant the dependency is trivially easy to dump. Like after one day without coffee, I don't notice anything. On a scale of 1 to 10, coffee would be 1, smoking 7, heroin 10. So yeah.
