Speaking of uggs, how bad are fat girls who wear uggs? Sometimes their calves are so big that the uggs are more like socks.

Spoiler:

I need some anecdoatal evidence to back up a realization that I had:

All the picky people I know are super picky and somehow eat the worst garbage.

"I'm really picky, the only thing I eat for lunch is 20 chicken nuggets"

"I'm really picky I love steak but it has to be drowned in A1 and cooked super well done"

"I'm super picky I only eat strawberry toaster strudel for breakfast"

"The best Pizza I've ever had is from Little Caesar's"

Does anyone know anybody that's super picky but only eats really healthy food because that's all they like?

I wouldn't say I know the banana girl from earlier today...
04-17-2013 , 08:10 PM
No it's always bad food and it's always the people who never left their crappy hometown until they graduated high school

yeah those people are stuck in the "yummy phase", they have the pallet of a 5 year old child, somehow their genetics got screwed up and their pallet never develops into an adult pallet. they are opposed to most things that are bitter (coffee, beer etc). at restaurants they will almost exclusively order some type of pasta/burger/french fries/chicken fingers meal. sushi/fish is off limits for them, as is most foreign dishes.

like you said, they will drown every thing in sauces, ranch, and ketchup. relish and mustard are usually no-no's as well.

they are freaks, stay away.

Wow, nailed it.

These people frustrate me. Can we fix them?
04-17-2013 , 08:22 PM
JF and I apparently know the same people. Those same picky people that can't manage to correctly pronounce the foreign foods they won't eat. Like croissants. Or chipotle.

I mean it blows my mind when someone is like 'nah I don't eat korean food' or 'nah I don't l don't like Mexican"

How the F do you not like an entire culture's food and are totally incapable of finding one thing that you can eat so you can tag along when everyone goes there.

I also think these people have their minds made up before they try new foods and automatically dislike things before they hit their tongues.

Is that culture? Friends? Parenting?

I honestly think it has a lot to do with parenting
04-17-2013 , 08:29 PM
yeah I was raised by southern people on like grilled cheese sandwiches and spaghetti. fortunately I got a job in a restaurant at 16 and was exposed to real food.
04-17-2013 , 08:31 PM
To add more:

The reason I think it's parenting:

When I was little and my mom cooked something new, if I didn't like I was burnt. "Eat it or go to bed hungry" they told me.

8 years later when my brother was the same age and he didn't like the dinner my mom cooked it was standard for them to be like, 'oh just cook yourself a pizza' or 'ok we have some frozen burritos in there if you want that instead'

My brother is picky as ish

Strong anecdotal evidence

it's mostly genetic i think because most families will be normal eaters but they will have one family member stuck in the yummy phase.

parenting could be a factor if they feed their kids nothing junk food but i think these kids have hope in developing a pallet once they leave the house.

I often look at a lot of factors when something is believed to be genetic or environment, I think it's very interesting.

I think that in most cases it's a decent mixture of both (genetics vs epigenetics, basically)

My gf is def 'stuck in the yummy phase' and I so desperately want her to break it so we can eat together at more places, but I doubt it will ever happen.

Sigh

maybe there's hope....does she enjoy wine? or does she exclusively drink sugary coolers and mixed drinks?

I started to write a post about how picky my son is but I started listing what he eats and realized he's not. He's just way more picky than me (more like his mother). Mostly he doesn't like anything unidentifiable, if he doesn't know what it is, he won't eat it.

Some funny things he mostly won't eat:
cookies, pie, cake, ice cream, chocolate

My wife is a registered dietician and so when people find this out they think we deprive him of sweets and stuff but frankly we eat all of the above on the regular and he is welcome to it, he just doesn't want it. He eats any fruit, most vegetables, and is not picky about protein source. He just won't eat mixtures of stuff where he isn't familiar with it.

I think he may have won the genetics jackpot. He's pretty ripped. Well, for a 7 year old.

I really could have lived happily for the rest of my life not knowing about the existence of '30 bananas a day' people. Thanks mother****ers.

What a great troll given that it was delivered as not a joke. Total Miles Dyson move to have a donut in your face and be able to deliver that line with no hint of sarcasm. Personally I would have challenged her to a banana eating challenge HU 4 rolls.
Given she's in software dev, the comment was probably a neg and then he got too nervous to PUA correct.
