Any advice for jogging at night? Any advice for jogging at night?

I've started jogging because I'm about 8 years overdue to start. Anyway, many nights I end up working until 9:00 pm, and it's dark out when I finally get home. I would like to go running right after I get home, before dinner.

Besides bright-colored clothes...any advice? I'm a little clumsy so I'm wondering if running in the dark is a good idea, or a tib/fib fracture waiting to happen.

I did it for years and never came close to getting injured. If you're one of those guys who crosses the street in the daytime without even looking, watch out. If you keep your wits about you, you should be fine. I'd be more concerned with getting chased by dogs than anything.

Dirty windows, poorly lit street, distracted driver--> brightly colored isn't enough. Wear something reflective. And assume people can't see you.

Be defensive and you'll be fine. Don't assume any driver sees you.

Try to find a park or somewhere with a trail.

I used to run at nights with a running club. One night one of the female runners found the pothole. Ended up in the hospital.
Being clumsy is not good. Wear reflective clothes. Carry a flashlight. Check the batteries. Scream at approaching cars.

Remember, you don't have to run faster than the car. You just have to run faster than the slowest guy you push in front of the car.

I know tracks are kinda boring to run on, but it would save you the hassle of worrying about dangers.

Theres not much to it. Stay on the sidewalk if possible, pay good attention to your running surface, and stay out of the way of cars.

I always get the feeling that I'm running faster when its dark out? Standard or weird?
