will try it out

At least I only have two plates to keep spinning, even if it feels like a heroic effort to keep it up... there's always the Cantillon bunker to hide in!

4th April

100 swings (32kg) and 10 get ups (16kg) in 20m 50s.

3x10 floor press (24kg)
3x10 standing row (24kg)

Have adjusted mostly into lockdown. Still getting in regular games of D&D and some other catch up stuff to keep a bit social, and some family and solo walks helping too.

Still lifting reasonably regularly. Pulled 192.5kg for three sets of five this past weekend, squats 160kg for sets of five. Enjoying a bit of strongman-esque stuff, here's some circus DB stuff for reps. My best single on it is 48kg, but technique is limiting when its that heavy. Might max out again in a couple of weeks after some more training time with it. For reference, one of the local comps has guys doing multiple reps with 52.5kg at <80kg bodyweight, so some way off that!

Nice lifts. Must be nice to live in a country where COVID doesn't exist.

I still remember a time when you were thinking about staying in USA#1. You dodged a ****ing bullet there.

Interesting times. We’re more or less business as usual now, which is crazy considering how ****ed you guys are.

AtS W1:

Doing the Reps in Reserve template, with trap bar instead of sumo as a deadlift accessory. Strict 4 mins rest all round, very tiring. Kept the RPE's conservative for now.

Strongman Sunday:

Log Clean and Press:
worked up to a dumb make at 89kg and a dumb fail at 94kg - not dropping under the weight on the jerk portion of it. I believe this is an 8" log.
Axle Deadlift (DOH, 6 mats):
Managed a single at 110kg, lol. Was mostly just getting a feeling for the height of the axle for static monsters, but given log performance is so **** doubt i'll bother.
Farmers Walk:
80kg a hand, 4 reps of one lengths, then an AMRAP (putting it down at the turns) of 4 lengths & two steps. A length is maybe 15m
Viking Press (strict):
100kg loaded, 2x5, 1x10 AMRAP

Bodyweight (am): 82.4kg

The strongman category is <80kg, but with 24 hour weigh ins. I've never wwight cut, but will cross that bridge if I bother to get in the arena. I no doubt have >2kg of fat to lose too anyway.

Ahhhh, so envious. I was about to start AtS before lockdown, I had everything setup. I will be following closely!

It seems like every time Aidan quits lifting, he just bounces back to strong like bull in no time.

I've been going pretty consistently since october, with 7 weeks off for lockdown (but had some kettlebells). Honestly, finding good training partners again has made a difference. But this is where progress really slows down so we'll see how long I remain motivated. Also annoyingly 2p2 got blocked at work.

Here's some great lifting at regionals this past weekend - 10x bw total https://www.instagram.com/p/CCvVOrGAbR5/

Tim Monigatti totalled 800kg at 83kg as a junior at a different regionals: https://www.instagram.com/p/CCf0m4QAsoN/

Week 2:

Managed extra reps all around, keeping to 4min rest still but getting tough when the fatigue builds up.

Strongman Sunday:

Axle clean and press:
up to some makes at 70kg

Yoke* walk:
160kg x 4 reps, there and back
200kg x 2 reps, there and back
* not actually a yoke, but a cambered axle bar. We call them suicide yokes.

Monster DB:
up to 42kg, just fried by this point

Viking Press:
80kg x8x3

Facepulls.

Also chipped in for an 82kg and a 100kg stone. Will need to put in work on the 82kg to get to the 100!

Week 3

Had a day off work with a chest cold this week, so was very happy to get through this week in the shape I did, mostly beating the targets.

Strongman Sunday:

Farmer's Walk:
40m w/ 60kg a hand, 5 reps. Final run in 18.8s, left hand weaker than right.

Axle C&P:
A bunch of reps with 60kg, just trying to make sense of the movement. Slight improvements from last week.

Zercher Carry (axle):
140kg x 10m x 4
Devastatingly hard on the diaphragm trying to breath. Think I'm strong enough just gotta be prepared to hurt.

4 mat deadlift:
140kg x3 x10 EMOM
Fine, probably should have bumped the weight but this worked well for my buddy.

Finished with some shoulders, lats and biceps work.

So my training partner has entered the november competition. I'd like to but its the same day as my daughter's birthday so we'll see. 13 weeks out so I'll train as if I was trying to enter and see how we go. I'd have to cut but its a 24 hour weigh in so could water cut. I also wouldn't want to zero anything and have some ground to make up.

Events are:
- Farmer's walk: 40m @ 95kg a hand. No chance at the moment.
- Overhead medley: 50kg monster DB, 95kg axle, two reps each for time. Monster DB is fine, axle is not.
- Car deadlift: TBC, but I'd back myself to be competitive here.
- Conan's Wheel: 210kg. No idea, but I'd at least get it moving.

In USA#1 this is 'rona until proven otherwise. Must be nice to think, "I guess I've got a cold".

I guess the downside, is that here you would have a mandatory 1-2 wk self quarantine. Now you might think that would give you more time to train, but there is nowhere to actually lift.

NZ is really probably the nut place on Earth to be right now.

Yeah man, pretty blessed. Called up the doc, explained what was going on thinking I'd have to take a test, not high risk so no need. We're fairly close to normal (excepting the looming economic catastrophe).

zercher carry seems brutal. I don't know how i would walk and breathe with any amount of weight, let alone 140kg

Was a weird sensation breathing out on the first rep and being physically unable to breathe back in - both my buddy and I made that mistake. Goldfish breaths. We didn't make that mistake again.

Week 4:

Pretty solid week, getting through the sessions in about 1:45 with good adherence to 4' rest periods.

Strongman Sunday:

Atlas Stone:
Bunch of reps with the 82kg to ~1.15m platform, shouldered it once, barely budged the 100kg. Concentrating on being a bit more explosive on the load, and patient on the pick, crush crush crush. No tacky. Maybe next time.

Monster DB:
Narrowly missed a 50kg PB attempt, but fried after stones. Did some volume work, concentrating on looking more upwards to avoid pushing away from center of mass.

Bar end holds:

Loaded up a bar and gripped the fat end, reps of 10s at 30kg loaded. Left hand noticeably weaker.

Bottoms up front squat:
80kgx3x10, EMOM

Fun session, was looking forward to hitting the stones for a while. Training buddy was testing squat and bench, +15kg squat and +12.5kg bench so good day all round.

Lockdown week 1:

Trained today, managed to borrow some plates and an axle bar to keep working, and this is what I did:

Axle Clean and Push Press:
A bunch of singles at 70, 72.5, and hit 3/6 attempts at 75. Just a stupid movement. I'm bending my arms too early, and not quite sure how to bump it up after changing hands.

Axle Strict Press
60x4x3

Deadlift:
140x3x5
Tough on grip, even mixed grip.

Rows:
60x10x3

Glad to have got some work in.

Trained today as well:

Strict Press:
75x1, 77.5x1, 80xf
60x5x3

Edging towards bodyweight press, think I'd get it out of a rack, maybe.

Zercher Squat:
140x1, 160xf, 120x5x3

Axle Rows:
70x10x3

Hit some curls while packing up. Pretty fun session, would like to get a BW press and a 2xBW zercher next week.
