BOXING THEORY QUESTION

Let's say you have two untrained boxers.

Boxer 1 is 5'9", 250. Extremely strong and thick, but has a gut and weak cardiovascular endurance, and little speed. Say, benches 300 1rm, but can't crack a 10 minute mile, or run a sub 6 second 40.

Boxer 2 is 6'2", 190. Has distinct reach advantage and is in good cardiovascular shape. Can only bench 200 1rm but has plenty of endurance. Runs like a low 5.x 40.

Assume average (read: not great) ability to take a punch for both boxers.

Who wins? Is it close?

Ok, while we are asking stupid "boxing" questions, I had one the other day...

What is it that makes someone better/worse at taking a punch in the face? You always here people say sh*t like: Blah Blah is good, but he has a glass jaw. What makes your jaw glass/steel?

Well, when people get knocked the **** out, it's usually because a punch causes their head to move a short distance very quickly, causing their brain to bounce off the inside of their skull.

I'd hazard a guess that having super strong and thick neck muscles would help reduce the amount your head recoils when punched.

Just a guess though, I have no idea.

Boxer 2 should do nothing but dance and win by decision like over 90% of the time.

I'd give a significant edge to the skinny guy in this case because the 250 guy is gonna be ready to die after a minute or two. I know this because aside from his strength, this was a more out of shape me before I decided to lose weight and I know I would get my ass kicked in this situation even if I could bench 300.

I got stuck at work tonight and couldn't get to the gym for very long to try and lose some water weight. Did a few laps in the pool and my arms were about to fall off, sat in the hot tub for a few minutes, and then moved to the sauna for about 10-15 minutes. I feel like I'm about to die, so its time for bed. I am so looking forward to weighing in tomorrow morning and then drinking a gallon of water.

Oh, also, my weak/fatty friend can't do a single chinup or even hold a negative. I'm going to have him do 3x5 assisted chins and lowering the assistance workout-to-workout. Solid?

Also... I wont go as far as saying I am seriously considering doing this... but I am thinking about it... Am I being ******ed?

Pulled a muscle in my ass deadlifting today. WTF. I didnt even know you could pull an ass muscle. On a positive note, I guess this means I must be engaging my posterior chain, which is a small victory for a severely anterior dominant person.

I was thinking I did something to my Lat yesterday but at this point I'm not so sure.

I'm feeling very noticeable pain when I turn my shoulders to the left and minor pain when I turn to the right. It is just to the right of the spine in line with the top set of abdominal muscles.

Any ideas? (Xposted from log)

I dunno. I was tempted to do something similiar but i couldn't think of many uses for it. The couple of dozen PT jobs and odd coaching one in my city didn't seem enough and i thought this course would be oversubscribed. Might be wrong though.

Your alterations to SS are stupid, and in light of this, even dumber than I thought before.

While in the shower somewhere between idly fondling my genitals and actually washing myself... I thought about men. I decided to think of gaiz who aren't 70sBig. Here are some known 90sSmall gaiz:

Although, fwiw, I am a little concerned by my friend's complete inablility to do even a negative chinup, and I dont really think assisted chins are all that cool... but what are the best options for a weak/fatty? Fat man rows?
04-01-2010 , 11:27 AM
See smiley's chinup thread.
04-01-2010 , 11:29 AM
Why is it stupid? It adds in more vertical pulling without horizontal pull, provides no explosive movements, and cuts down the volume of the most important exercises. And then you realize he's not even able to complete a pullup.
