McDouble, side salad, and apple pie covers all the basic food groups for $3.

i basically think in terms of protein/dollar and buying a pound of meat for less than $2 trumps any fast food. chicken breast tenderloins are on sale for $1.77/pound right now. going to pick up like 10lb later.

i also never thought the argument was prepared food vs. cooking yourself with respect to poor people. doubt even a poor family thinks it's better to buy fast food than make a huge batch of spaghetti or something. i thought it was cheap vs. expensive store bought food, and mainly with terrible examples like the "low fat" versions of different processed foods are more expensive, etc.

I bought 4lbs of fresh chicken breast for $10 yesterday, doubt fast food can compete w/ that $/protein
03-21-2010 , 02:22 PM
lol buying on sale

better than haggling with a gypsy in the market square

generally stock up on chicken breast at 2/lb and porl loin a the same price. my friend hooked me up with some costco ny strips for like 5.50/lb and they were great.

if i ever get off my ass and buy a house, i will buy a bigass fridge and head over to the http://www.westsidemarket.org/ and find a butcher to sell me like a whole cow and pig.

I just don't like freezing/defrosting meat. Its rubbish. I would do this for exceptional cost savings or due to the practicality of doing something awesome (buying whole animals Dark age dowry style).

Both of those CF affiliates look bad to me.

I wish everywhere would stop doing chipper WODs. I see no benefits other than training mental toughness which is stupid. Fill your bathtub up with cold water and sit in it for an hour. Punch yourself in the balls on occasion and don't cry. Both build mental toughness and thats about it.

If everybody was house cat sized, would you rather be Chris Spealler (queer) or Maosheng Le (awesome)?

I can get 30 eggs for $4 at Wal-Mart, that's 45g of protein/$.

Even if you just want to make McDoubles, my local grocery store has 80% beef for $1.50/lb (on sale). I can buy a pack of 8 buns for $1.5 and a pack of cheese (12 slices) for $2.

A McDonalds hamburger patty is 1.5oz so I can make 8 of them for $1.5 (bun) + 16*1.5*$1.5=$2.25 (meat) + 8*8/12*$2=$1.33 (cheese) = $5.08 or $0.635 each. I guess you can add another 15 cents or so for the pickle/mustard/ketchup/onions and a make it at home McDouble runs around $0.80.

Cheap beef makes terrible burgers. Spending like 3 bucks a pound on beef for burgers vs the beef in the tube crap is so so so worth it.

fu america. If this sale went on I would probably throw some things out of the freezer to fit more chicken in.

It's all those underpaid mexicans, they're good for a country.

i guess you have more refined taste senses than me bc i never notice a difference.
03-21-2010 , 05:13 PM
Yeah. So refined that its been a matter of law. lolz
03-21-2010 , 05:14 PM
whelp, im convinced. never gonna freeze meat again.
03-21-2010 , 05:15 PM
I'm sorry if you have damaged taste buds. Ain't my problem.

meh if the meat is allowed to defrost properly its not really an issue, but obviously microwave defrosting or whatever sucks.
03-21-2010 , 05:23 PM
Freezing isnt a problem for by me.
03-21-2010 , 05:28 PM
i freeze chicken, pork, sausage, bacon, and ground beef. takes a day or two to defrost in the fridge, depending what it is. i never notice a difference. usually never buy enough steak or fish at a time to freeze it.

victor, i tried what you said about apple cider vinegar marinade for pork a while ago. you said between 30 minutes and 4 hours, and i had time so i let it go for 4 hours. it was terrible. the meat was gray from the marinade. i tried again for 30 minutes, and it was delicious.
03-21-2010 , 05:32 PM
did you use only acv? i usually use about 2 parts low sodium soy and 1 part acv.
03-21-2010 , 05:34 PM
i used mostly vinegar, but not much liquid overall.
03-21-2010 , 05:38 PM
heres a super easy and delicious way to make burgers. add a couple drops of worcestershire sauce to the ground beef prior to pattying.
