WEEK 9, DAY 2

Baseline 329.7
Week 1 Avg. 325 (-4.7)
Week 2 Avg. 321.4 (-8.3)
Week 3 Avg. 318.9 (-10.8)
Week 4 Avg. 316 (-13.7)
Week 5 Avg. 313.9 (-15.8)
Week 6 Avg. 312.4 (-17.3)
Week 7 Avg. 312.4 (-17.3)
Week 8 Avg. 309.6 (-20.1)
Today 309.2 (-20.5)

Here is what I am learning - when I eat healthy meals but replace healthy snacks with junk (cookies, chocolate bars) I stall.

When I eat the correct snacks, I lose.

There has been a LOT of junk in my life for about a week now. The averages look good, but I have been stalled for a few days. Today there has been no junk (yay!) and I am on my regular meal schedule.

If I switched to the junky diet I had before beginning all this I would certainly begin gaining again. While I am going to continue to avoid the junk I will not beat myself up when I have a bad day since that now means a stalled day.

Regards to junk..I thought the same, untill it was kicked out of me by the good following on this forum. Of course it is better to eat cleaner, but all things being equal if the junk has the same calorific value as the clean food you will lose the same weight.

It's just more often than not it doesnt. So more calorie management than food specific managementioned imo.

gnatie,

You are right that no one day is going to kill you and feeling guilty about it will only lead to problems but, ultimately, you are going to get out what you put in. What's leading to these bad days? And, more importantly, are there any systematic changes you can make to try to make it easier to avoid them? (The most obvious example being to only have healthy food available at any given time)

Anything you can do to avoid relying on pure willpower will make this a lot easier and more sustainable.

Wilde,

You're absolutely right and it works for you because you are still diligently staying under your caloric benchmark. The problem is that junk food doesn't do much to satisfy hunger. For anyone who is less diligent, it is so easy to eat more food on top of the junk in order to feel satiated.

Amen brother...I had my first pizza on the cut about a month ago...just a normal shop one...was about 900 cals...ate it and was starving for the rest of the night. Previously I used to go through one of those things with a tonne of wedges with extra cheese, a mayonnaise based sauce, not to mention the crisps, biscuits and chocolate that usually followed a Friday night pizza...Healthy food rocks. I EAT 300g worth of cabbage with my dinner and it's 75cals...lol

Great questions!

1 - I work for a synagogue that serves food to members multiple times a week and allows the staff to eat a certain amount of the leftovers. I used to eat lunches from this food, I now bring in my own unless I know I can assemble the leftovers into a meal that fits my needs.

2 - Related to (1), a few times a year I am responsible for managing events or event preparation that involves baking cookies that come frozen as individual balls. In both frozen and baked forms these are yummy. One such event took place last week (cooking with teens for a charity event)

We already removed all the junk from my home, which has made a big difference. Also, there should be less junk around work going forward now that a couple of holidays/events have ended.

Overall I am definitely eating less than I would have in the past, but I am still working hard to remove more of those junk food opportunities from my life.

More seriously, good answer! Sub 300 is just around the corner! Just keep grinding!

I felt like it was getting boring/repetetive. However, you are correct to point it out, since I think I eat better when I know I will be posting it!

I will resume, though it will be inconsistent since there is a Jewish holiday Sat/Sun during which I will not be posting.

At the very least, keep a log for yourself. The act of logging alone will reduce how much you eat.

I will say this - I am more careful if I know I am going to be sharing the information publicly.

Speaking of which, today:

BREAKFAST - FIber one with some low fat granola, 4 pecan halves, and 2 % milk, an apple
LUNCH - Salad with romaine, shredded carrots, chick peas, 2 eggs, and about 1 Tb of french fried onions
DINNER - Ate out at the local diner - grilled flounder filet, steamed string beans, cole slaw, one little piece of garlic toast
SNACKS - morning and afternoon, about 1/3 cup fiber one with 1 Tb peanuts and spices
MORE - I will probably eat a whole pepper this evening and perhaps a small bit of sugar free ice cream with (surprise!) fiber one
