KBZ,

Whatev.

sypder,

I thought about get some aldens, though since I need just a basic black cap toe... I'm leaning toward the AE Park Ave. Thoughts? FWIW I've also heard comments about Alden's declining as well, though not a horrid level. Cole Haan is probably the most disparaged thing I hear about though :/

All,

I'm talking to a female friend about her shoes. She's like "That style is really popular now." I respond, "Yeah, the cut out with the peep toe is pretty sweet." I need to stop looking at clothes lest I catch teh ghey.

Aldens declining in terms of quality? I haven't heard anything about that. Do you know what changes they are making/have made?

I was thinking of buying these from Alden

Well yea obv they're not going to be worn in a setting where I'm like "Hey everybody, check out my shoes, they're ****in awesome!"

I checked out a good chunk of their inventory last weekend and it looks the same as ever.

It's not quality decline on the grand scale. It's things like the quality in the stitching of the outsole to the rest of the shoe that can only be examined on the individual pair scale.

now i'm looking for a nice, but casual brown shoe that looks good with jeans. not looking for anything too fancy-i'm only 23 and don't need a super nice pair of shoes. i was thinking something along the lines of this...

not sure what other companies to search for.

daman - Those shoes are seriously wreched. Since you don't want something fancy, you might like Clarks Desert boots. I like them in beeswax, tan suede, and brown suede

If you guys are looking for nicer shoes for pre-dress shoe crowd, I'd recommend checking out creative recreations. They are pretty good for the nice jeans and tshirt look.

And if you'd like a step up from the Clarks in quality, I think the Opening Ceremony Desert Boots are pretty sick (thinner outsole than the Clarks makes for a lower profile).

Ok. Like I said, I looked. The quality looks the same to me.

Any sunglasses recommendations? $200 range.

Grue, that's a very broad request. I'll give you the summary of all the various OOT threads on this: go Maui Jim for high quality optics.

i'm obviously nobody to question a classic shoe like these ones, but I don't think i could pull these off. a little too "classic" for me i guess. what do you think of some of the other more sneakerish clarks? i think the following are nice, but need some opinions because i guess i have no taste

Why dont you think you could pull off the desert boots? They're a very basic low profile shoe.

Manque,

I thought those were the Chukka's you bought. They sure as hell made me jealous after I bought some Cole Haan's last year

The typical sneaker that attemps to look like a dress shoe while being casual fails in most cases. I pick these up a few weeks ago and think I can settle for these when I want style without being formal.

Overall: the Dassler line from Puma is a good place to begin searching.

Eagles,

I think you may also like the Dassler line. The link to Cole Haan is broken =\
