Identity Theft Question Identity Theft Question

A debt collecting agency called and asked for information. Usually, this means scam because I don't own anyone moneys. This time around, I got fked good.

My mother had an appointment with a doctor at UCLA and owned money. She obviously paid but the UCLA billing system is ******ed because one department doesn't have access to another department's invoice. For example, if my mother pay at department A, department B will not know it until a few years later.

Recently, she received a letter from the UCLA Medical Center stating that if she doesn't pay, a collecting agency will call us. This is where I got fked. Because almost simultaneously [or to be more specific, in a span of 1 or 2 days], I received a message on my answering machine stating it is from a debt collecting agency and I should call back to resolve the matters.

I obvious called back and verified some information such as my home phone number, last 4 digits of SSN, name and I don't remember if I gave out exact home address.

Right after I gave out last four digits of SSN, I realized oh ***, I might be a victim of loloTrickedu. So I went online and Googled 1-888-899-0468. I got screwed good.

I went on Experian and placed a fraud prevention thing for 90 days. Anyone with similar experience or know someone else? What should I do?

Thanks.

If someone asks you "Are you [yourname]" you say no

Yeah whenever someone phones me from a withheld number and asks me to confirm my identity before they'll speak to me, I know it's nobody I want to talk to.

SH,

Don't give personal info out to people who call you. I'm not sure why you think this is identity fraud and not just the collection agency calling (http://www.ncogroup.com/).

Anyway, this thread sucks. If you have anything to add, just post it in the random discussion thread.
