Have they announced Rockhold as number one contender yet?

But is he unrapeable?

Crazy few days. I'm surprisingly happy with how the UFC handled it and pumped for DC vs Rumble

Not officially but it's a foregone conclusion imo.

I think jacare might have something to say about that

I'd imagine they would want to push Rockhold for the title shot given the hype surrounding him after his Machida fight.

Jacare is just consistently great and will probably keep grinding his way to the title shot after Rockhold.

But can he say it in English?

He actually speaks better English than I thought. He had "I'm the number one contender" down pat, it wasn't always in the right context but he speaks at least a little. Pretty obvious he's gonna redo the Romero fight tho and rockhold is getting the shot. Obvious enough that jacare asked for a number one contender bout that will never happen w luke

Jacare and Rockhold were about even going into their last fights, Rockhold stopped Machida and Jacare beat Camozzi... for the 3rd time.

Rockhold moved up to #1 in UFC rankings.

He's way more marketable than Jacare too. Him and Chris have had a bunch of back and forth on fox with DC instagating.

Barring injuries Rockhold will 100% be getting the next title shot.

The UFC is fortunate that Rockhold beat Machida the way he did, because if it's a 48-47 decision his case stays equal with Jacare's, who was in a no-win situation that he didn't cause.

I guess we try Jacare/Romero again and the winner gets Weidman/Rockhold winner. Not entirely fair to Jacare, but that's how the chips have fallen and Rockhold has the win over him anyway.

My thought when the UFC didn't announce Rockhold as the #1 contender was that they wanted to keep the upper hand in negotiations. Let's say Weidman drops out of the fight against Belfort, they can now tell Rockhold that if he takes the fight he'll get Weidman next. Or if Belfort drops out they can pressure him into taking the titlefight on shorter notice. Whereas if Rockhold is already promised a titleshot he might say nah, I'll just wait.

I'm not sure if that makes sense, but I can see no other reason for them not to just announce he's the next contender, because clearly he should be.

It really bothers me that they'd suspend him over such a minor charge. I can see suspending a guy charged with murder, rape, kidnapping, manslaughter, aggravated assault, armed robbery, etc. But leaving the scene of an accident is really really low down on the totem pole of criminal charges one could face.

I hate how we have this draconian criminal justice system, and on top that people get a level of extra punishment from various non-governmental actors.

6 months ago, If you polled UFC fans and asked if a fighter getting charged with "leaving the scene of an accident" should result in him being summarily dropped from a pay-per-view main event and suspended indefinitely, I don't think you'd see the kind of response we're seeing now. It's a like feeding frenzy. The law enforcement and prison system in this country is way too heavy handed as it is. No need to add more fuel to that fire.

Personally, I hope Jones beats the case on a technicality, gets in a lawsuit with Dana and the Ferttitas, uses his off-time to get on some serious juice, and comes back at heavyweight looking like a black 2012 Overeem.

That is just a gold gif. They need to pair it with the one where he lost his Nike sponsorship and was looking dejectedly at his Adidas.

He was charged with a felony. Most of the major sports suspend anyone charged with a felony. This is standard protocol.

As is standard in the U.S., Jones was overcharged. According to the NM statue, leaving the scene of an accident is only a felony if the accident resulted in "great bodily harm or death". Otherwise, it's a misdemeanor. I think you'll have a damn hard time finding 12 jurors who would unanimously classify a fractured wrist as great bodily harm. Personally, I'd put it in the minor injury category. When you add in the fact that she wasn't even complaining about the wrist at the scene and just wanted to go to the hospital to get checked out, it's a slam dunk.
