Nah. The only early stoppage in the main event was Anik's interview with dos Anjos.

Maybe a tad early stoppage but it was ok. I think the question is whether the ref should stop the fight immediately when a fighter goes limp like Benson did or if he should have a short window of time for a chance to recover. Big John called the fight when Benson dropped, I think that's fine if applied consistently.

Bendo survived the showtime kick. He's invincible!
08-24-2014 , 03:08 AM
i cant remember who did the showtime kick

the heavyweight champ is still from venezuela right?

go home kirbynator you're drunk

i think it should be standard to give veteran contender-level fighters like benson a little more benefit of the doubt than big john did last night

Benson should be happy that Big John gave him an extra three career fights. He was spared a beating.

He was out. There is no benefit of the doubt. And no, regardless of how tough a fighter is, if he stops moving because he's unconscious, he shouldn't be given more of a beating.

I loathe Ben but I dont think the stoppage was fine at all. He took a good punch trying to get up, and its impossible to tell if he was able to recover because Big John frog splashed him before he hit the ****ing canvas lol.

He did fishflop around the mat for like a minute after the fight. That changed my opinion.

Might wanna re watch. He was up on his feet in the middle of the cage jogging on the spot trying to show he was fine like 10 seconds later, he was being held down my Big John is why he didnt get up.

Stoppage wasn't awful, just its not consistent. Its a hard job though they need to make snap judgements, it is what it is, but its clear some guys get much more leeway to recover, and some dont, and some take to much damage.... which is what makes it a very hard call to make. That said his just looked bad because he was springing back up, got hit by the hook which launched him backwards and his legs gave out.

Early on the card Wilson Reis, who is a pure bjj guy, got dropped hard, like flat, twice, and much worse imo, but was allowed to scramble and continue and went on to win. He was in the middle of the cage though, when guys go down against the cage it can look really bad because they can jammed in there and flop around trying to recover imo.

I am fine with people tihnking its a fine stoppage though, wasnt bad but I wish we could set a guidleine on when a fight has to be stopped etc, but that could be unrealistic.

Also apparently Dana sent word down after the 2nd fight in China and had the one terrible judge moved into the stands to have a beer and watch the fights not judge them. Since they were their own officiating body there he could do this.

Henderson had another ****ing toothpick in his mouth during the interview. Did he fight with it in again? That's so crazy to me.

I was super happy to see him lose even if the stoppage was slightly premature.

they had another judge to replace him?
08-24-2014 , 05:01 PM
I read about that. Why did it take this long for something like that to happen? Can he do that anywhere?
08-24-2014 , 05:10 PM
theyre not the regulating body anywhere in western mma

I'll have to rewatch, but he went limp and stopped moving IIRC.

I don't think they have only 3 judges for the entire night. So yeah, he just had Judge #4 replace him and took him out of rotation.

No, only in a place like China where there is no regulatory body and the UFC acts as the shot callers.

oh, right.

Don't even care if it was an early stoppage. Bendo has robbed enough people that it'd just be his comeuppance if he did get an early stoppage.

That said dude goes completely limp. Stoppage was fine imo.
08-24-2014 , 06:15 PM
did big john even really mean to stop the fight when he did? there is a non-zero chance that he went full cecil peoples and just couldn't stop his momentum while tripping over dos anjos' right foot.

then once he falls on top of the fighters he's committed and has to go through with the stoppage.

08-24-2014 , 06:19 PM
Looked like he was moving at "I'm stopping it" speed to me.

Dude was spaghetti legs.
08-24-2014 , 08:37 PM
Ben never went limp at any point, but he got dropped hard and into a bad spot so its not terrible. Yea it does look like John does hesitate there a bit. Should be noted he was on his way up and didnt eat a single shot after being dropped.

Yep, I had a very large parlay ruined by him "beating" Frankie the 2nd time, I am not a Bendo fan at all so I am not biased at all in saying that was stopped early.

bens legs are slowly sliding out/side turtling toward the middle of the octagon in that gif and hes getting punched, this is all right before big john even touches them. hes not getting up, hes getting a concussion.
08-24-2014 , 09:11 PM
He not only does turn and get up, he does it with John holding him down so
