Wow, did Phil beat his ass afterwards?

Because I have nothing to do, I'm in the middle of a Fedor Emelianenko marathon. RINGS sucks.
07-12-2008 , 11:10 PM
I read about that on the pbp...Given Hammerhouse and their track record I am amazed this didnt turn into something crazy..
07-12-2008 , 11:10 PM
I didn't see the fight, just stole the .gifs from Sherdog. Apparently Phil was going to check on the guy he just KOd (Jansen) and the guy's brother threw the sucker head butt. Phil blocked most of it and backed up and apparently the guy just left the cage.
07-12-2008 , 11:56 PM
wow what a douchebag. phil's apparently much classier than i thought though.

This made DIgg or Reddit or something. But it's a pretty funny video that I had not seen before

i'm pretty sure that guy wasn't knocked out. looks like he took a toe to the eye.
07-13-2008 , 02:42 AM
Yeah, not a knock out. It's amazing how amateur fighters can leave themselves so open, or at least fighters in their first big contest. They come out and for about 30 seconds most fighters forget all of their training and don't remember their game plan. That's why you see a lot of guys get ko'd by flying knees, superman punches, and other crazy stuff like a cartwheel that won't ever happen against two seasoned fighters.

More proof of Machida's awesomeness: Vera wanted to fight Henderson, Wandy, or Sokoudjou, but those 3 all turned him down. Machida offered to fight him and Vera turns down Machida, so Reese Andy is settled on for Vera's opponent. Lyoto is willing to fight anyone, yet it seems everyone is scared to fight him. It's only a matter of time until he holds the belt.

Affliction Promo

Ugh, without the rights to any fight footage, the Affliction promo is terrible. The voiceover guy is awful as well.

Hard to imagine Affliction will get anywhere near the buys they're hoping for. Isn't their target 250k+ or something? Fedor-Lindland got 14k buys (I'm pretty sure), I think Affliction will be lucky to do double that.

I don't think it's a matter of the fighters thinking they are going to get a beating a la Anderson Silva. It's more that the fighters don't want his style. They don't want to lose because of getting hit and then having to chase Machida around. I don't really blame them. They aren't scared of Machida's power or his skills, it's a just of matter of not wanting to have the typical Machida fight. I don't think Vera is scared of Machida in the least.

Affliction will get at least 150,000 buys.

Minus 100,000. And that's a stretch.
07-15-2008 , 01:32 AM
Yeah..I would put the over under at like 40-45..

prop bet?

i'll put at least a couple hundred on u150k

Honestly...I'll side w/Mikey

Lesser known product, unaggressive marketing beyond the inner circle of MMA fans, no significant TV exposure on cable TV anywhere, and a few more reasons.

I'll say 50K-60K, but it'll take 3-4 weeks to get a fairly close estimate of the numbers

lol

Someone jumped on it before I could, but I'd bet you pretty much anything they won't do that many. Why would you think that they will do that much when there's nobody at all in the MMA world (outside affliction, whose stated goal is 200K) who thinks that they can?

Last edited by DannyOcean_; 07-15-2008 at 05:51 AM. Reason: I think I was generous and predicted 45K earlier in the thread. I forget though, i'll stick with whatever i said earlier...

Interesting idea: The triple crown of combat sports

Any fighter that holds, or has held, a title in each of the following three events...

"THE TRIPLE CROWN OF COMBAT SPORTS"

1. K-1 Title or Major Boxing Title
2. ADCC or Mundials Title (Black Belt level)
3. MMA World Title (at any weight...in any major promotion).

One title for the most prestigious striking events.
One title for the most prestigious grappling events.
One title for the most prestigious MMA events.

I don't think anyone has ever done all three, and I don't know if anyone ever will. Who can you guys think of that have gotten 2/3? Who do you think is the closest to having the ability to get all three if they tried?

Right now, I'm thinking BJ Penn and Ricco Rodriguez, but drawing a blank on the strikers. I know they exist.

first thought was anderson silva seeing how he's called out RJJ, but then I look at who he'd need to beat in boxing to win a world title, and there's no way he'd get close to someone like Calzaghe

What was your estimate for buys before UFC announced their July 19 show?
