I never said he sucks. I agree he can beat Bisping, but he probably wont. It'll probably be a mismatch, and those types of matches generally suck (e.g. last Saturday's ME).

Mayhem hasn't fought in the UFC save one loss ages ago, hell be coming back from 15 months on the shelf, and hes not top 15 MW (consensus rankings put him at 24), while Bisping is top 10 (in no small part, imo, because of bad matchmaking).

And Bisping hasnt fought anyone else in the Top 10. He was on the doorstep of a fight against Sonnen (top 3 on the consensus ranks). How do you go from #3 to #24? They're are clearly better fights for Bisping out there, the idea that those should be skipped because:

Mayhem will troll the f out of Bisping which is what everyone really wants to see.
is lol imo. I have no interest in applauding the UFC for putting a perceived likelihood of good reality TV trolling before good matchmaking.

**

Also, btw, while, Bisping > Mayhem is far from a certainty it is the probable outcome, which brings up another mistake the UFC is making: Too many SF guys getting their ass kicked and looking really bad in the process. This was most clear with Santiago on Saturday.

Even though there haven't been any crossover fights yet, Zuffa could be hurting the marketability of future UFC v SF matches with recent bookings. When former SF guys get a UFC match and are built up as amazing b/c of the things they did in SF, introduced with SF clips and called SF champs, SF GP winners, etc... and then look horrible it only paints the picture for casual fans that SF people just can't hang, which could be a prob when it finally comes time to promote something like Cain v Overeem.

Sorry, only been skimming the thread, but is Diaz vs GSP confirmed?
05-30-2011 , 10:34 PM
Nope, not confirmed, and Dana flat out said GSP isn't fighting when the UFC returns to MTL in Dec. However, there is an effort underway to get it done, and Diaz has cancelled his planned foray into boxing, so I'd say it's more likely than not to happen.

I'll gladly argue that the decision was a travesty, although I'm guessing you agree with me. It's sad when the fighter who did the most damage, had the most dominant positions, and was the only one with a serious threat at a submission loses and it's so expected that almost no one bats an eye.

Can someone explain to me why the line moved the way it did? I think +160 is about reasonable. I am really surprised that Munoz is a favorite. Demian Maia handled Sonnen and Dan Miller, so I don't see what Munoz is going to bring that he can't handle.

Or do you just mean oops because other books already had the close to even line up?
05-31-2011 , 10:53 AM
Munoz isn't a great offensive MMA wrestler but one of his biggest strength in college wrestling was he had nasty take down defense.

It's going to be really really tought for maia to get this to the mat. Munoz trains at a great camp. He has sledge hammer's for fists and maias striking defense isn't the best. I think munoz is also a little faster and moves a little better.

I think maia's MMA abilities are a bit overhyped. He's really slow and awkward on the feet. I mean his technique is much better these days but he just doesn't have the fast twitch type muscles to be a good striker. He's really only got above average takedowns and even that those need to be from the clinch as his double is atrocious. His only win that was impressive was the Chael Sonnen one which is simply a dream match up for Maia.

I think anyone in the current top 10 is a favorite over maia aside from chael if chael is even still ranked.

however coker said in the 130 postfight w/ ariel that nothing is planned atm. maybe nick will have a fight b4 a gsp fight, b/c i think he is on a shorter recovery cycle than gsp the premadonna. but coker kept making it sound like he wants to take it slow w/ nick.
05-31-2011 , 07:43 PM
Maybe the problem is the possibility of Nick winning. Perhaps he's required to fight on Showtime/Strikeforce for some of his fights, which would be unworkable as the UFC champion.

My guess is that Dana will just placate Nick by giving him more dough and getting him a tough challenger. Maybe he could throw Jon Fitch into Strikeforce and kill two birds with one stone.

U wanted it! U GOT IT!!! GSP vs DIAZ Oct 29th UFC 137 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas
06-01-2011 , 07:57 PM
I assume GSP will dictate where the fight takes place, which means 15 minutes of lay and pray. That being said this should be his most exciting fight since Hardy, although I expect he wont be risking position against Diaz going for all those submissions.
