ITT I learn EDF judging is an epic fail.

Can't imagine diaz fans are too pissed about his test, him ****ing up is always looming. He can fail as many tests as he wishes. I just hope that if he has a desire to fight he will be able to.

My most anticipated fights:
1. Jones Rashad
2. JDS Overeem
3. henderson edgar
4. silva chael
5. jones mir (late late 2012)

Is this kind of irresponsible on the UFC's part? They knew he was taking a banned substance leading up to the fight.

It's common knowledge isn't it? There is nothing in that quote that says he knew Nick was smoking close to the fight.

I believe it is both clear and smallish

Well to me it 100% sounds like he's referring to their time following Nick for the show. It's not like an abstract quote about Diaz general habits. Seems more like a " I've followed this guy around filming this show, and this is all he does. " kind of quote and the only time he was around Nick was leading up to the fight.

I know it will amount to nothing overall, but just sayin

No clue how you don't think round four wasn't decisive. Condit outlanded Diaz at a 3-1 clip. And it wasn't just leg kicks either. Condit scored 13 head strkes (4 power strikes) to Diaz's 2 (0 power strikes). I don't mean this to be insulting, but I'd have to ask what you were watching during that round, because it certainly wasn't what I (and others) saw.
Yea round 4 was clearly Condit and he landed the best strikes of the fight in that round as well. He also back pedaled the least in that round and finally sat down on some shots.

I like you idea about if Diaz had the back in the beginning etc, because it drives me nuts in a fight where a guy does get the back for like 3 minutes, loses it then say his opponent ends up on tops for the last 2 minutes and wins the round. I have seen that before to. I swear some judges (and a lot of fans) have a 30 seconds attention span, case in point is Matt Riddle winning round 2 over Martienez on the undercard where 30 seconds before his "flurry" Goldberg mentioned Riddle had landed 10 strikes to Marinez's 68.

Just in case you are serious, we don't give a **** for where he lives.

I am sure as we get closer to chael v silva I will regret ranking it @ #4, but right now I am not that pumped for it.

here is my current WW ranking:

gsp
CC
fitch
hendricks
diaz
ellenberger
kos
shields
penn
kampman

awaiting criticism. not sure what to make of fitch, since he was #2 forever before his last fight. I kinda wanna disregard the flash ko. I hope he fights a rematch so I can get my answer. Nick diaz: one dimensional at the moment. He has BJJ and stamina, he needs to use it and fight smarter, otherwise he is going to get outpointed. Penn is prolly better than shields on a good day, but who knows his mental state. Kos looked like crap last fight.

is it me or caught clean that is the number 2 welterweight?

Hendricks is above Fitch ofc. Best way to handle it is to ignore Fitch and place Hendricks where appropriate, and then put Fitch a spot below that.

Problem?

I think nick having his back at the end of the round is much more significant than Nick taking it in the 1st minute. Watch the end of the fight again. The only reason Carlos gets out is because Nick goes for an arm bar only because there is 10sec left in the fight and Nick has no time to finish otherwise I kinda doubt Carlos gets out of that body triangle before being submitted.

So now re-watching it I don't think Carlos should get any credit for escaping he was pretty ****ed and saved by the clock.

Who is saying he should get credit for escaping back control?

People were also saying that Carlos was not in danger of being submitted. Well yeah actually he was. He did a good job defending for a minute or so but a body triangle and fighting off the choke for very long is going to wear on you. Finishing not only a round but the fight in a dominate position where you are likely to be able to finish if the round/fight were to continue does mean something.

Re: Nick's sub attempts not doing damage(I was in agreement with this)
The body triangle is said to affect proper breathing and thus do damage in the cardio aspect of the fight. This doesn't really mean much in the final round but is worth mentioning.
02-09-2012 , 10:57 PM
I agree with what you're saying about Diaz having Condit in bad shape especially if he had more time. But the body triangle cannot be counted as damage imo. It's usually not as painful as Rogan says. I mean...being mounted is physically taxing but that doesn't mean it should count as damage.
02-09-2012 , 11:02 PM
I tap people with the body triangle but its when you flatten them out with it, but yea hes not hurting Carlos with it there. I think escapes count for something, kind of like stopping a takedown but of course Nick get 99% of the credit in that 2 minutes or whatever it was.

Yeah, I have never been in a body triangle so idk how much it wears you out. It's not damage, but should it score points? I don't think so but leg kicks are supposed to wear people out too?

I think part of the problem is the octogon is so big it allows Carlos way to much room to run away. You could never do this as easily in boxing, pride, muai thai as it's square and much smaller.
02-09-2012 , 11:06 PM
I wonder if they make the octogon so huge to have more surface area for front row seats? Any other reasons for it to be so big? Is it nearly this big in any other organization?
02-09-2012 , 11:11 PM
Looking around the internet the "octogon" in UFC is about double the size of a boxing ring in square footage.
02-09-2012 , 11:11 PM
"Finishing not only a round but the fight in a dominate position where you are likely to be able to finish if the round/fight were to continue does mean something."

No, it doesn't. The round ends. That's it. You don't get extra credit for your position.

Carlos may have been less concerned with escaping because he knew the round/fight was almost over.

"If Dana White has any sense, he will cut ties with Diaz once and for all. White loves to say that MMA will become the biggest sport in the world one day. He's not going to get there any time soon by continually enabling fighters that can't follow simple rules, fighters that actually flaunt their ability to get around those rules beforehand."

from http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/2/9/...-weed-released

i just don't understand these kinds of arguments. It's often thrown around.
It's like saying Mike Tyson was bad for boxing.

People who tune in to watch combatsports generally don't give a **** about role models. They wan't to be entertained, and Nick Diaz is the most entertaining fighter on the planet. (if you combine inside and outside entertainment. Chael Sonnen is more exciting outside, Jones may be inside)

you have seen that move a bunch. We used to do it as kids. kicking peoples knees from the back.

Carlos didn't really escape the back mount. Nick transitioned to an armbar when there was less than 10 seconds left to try and finish the fight and Carlos saw it coming and defended easily. Nick never would've given up the back if he had more time.
02-10-2012 , 12:49 AM
the ufc definitely dodged a bullet with the diaz positive. If that decision had gone to Diaz, then the UFC is stuck with diaz stripped of the win and suspended for a year while condit is still viewed as the 'loser' and not really fit to fight GSP. And there's basically no interim champion and GSP is still out until november, so maybe ellenberger and hendricks would have to fight to be interim champion part deux.
02-10-2012 , 01:05 AM
So that's why they rigged the decision for Condit!
