So far I'd have to give it to DO.

Patton,

The mistake I see you making is you're going for all the "best" fighters... unfortunately the majority of them are not well-known in the states at all, so you will have a bunch of superstuds whom no one will come to see fight.

BTW, ahahahha

UFC 89 is going to be headlined by my two MW studs. I now have two guys in a MAIN EVENT SUPERFIGHT.

Stroke of good luck. Extra marketing + exposure + hype = happy danny

Unless it gets crappy ratings and everyone blames the two main event guys for not being good enough draws..

Free on Spike, perhaps? This is a solid main card fight, or even as the main event of a Fight Night, but as a PPV main event it's awful...similar to the Bisping/Evans main event last november (which I still consider to be the weakest in recent memory). But hey, for the purposes of this thread, it's a feather in Danny's cap.

Bisping/Leben may be worse than Bisping/Evans. It's unfortunate that the Count is being thrust into these main events because I like him, but I think he gets a negative backlash from it.

Round 11/Pick 84

Anthony "Rumble" Johnson

I was really, really torn on this pick. Not only do I need another WW, but I really want Johnson in my stable. I considered passing because I might have been able to pick him off later; given how that worked with my earlier potential picks I decided just to snag him now that the talent pool is getting pretty thin.

The term "physical freak" is thrown around too much these days, and should be reserved more for people like Rumble who actually qualify. We've seen his vicious striking in his 13-second KO in his UFC debut as well as his KO of Tommy Speer which will likely be KO of the Year - and the scary part is that AJ didn't come into MMA with a striking background! His length and athleticism will cause the 170-pounders fits, and he should provide me some quality highlight-reel KO's to satisfy the bloodthirsty American MMA fan.

Promotion so far:
HW - Tim Sylvia, Aleks Emelianenko
LHW - Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, Rashad Evans
MW - Rich Franklin, Ricardo Almeida
WW - Josh Koscheck, Anthony Johnson
LW - JZ Calvan, Joe Stevenson, Josh Thomson

Ehhhhhhh. I think it's a stretch. He definitely wasn't on my radar for the next couple rounds.

Round 11/Pick 85- Demian Maia

I'm pretty excited to be picking him up for my MW division this late. He has sick submissions and is currently undefeated in MMA, most recently destroying Ed Herman. I see big things for him.

Current promotion:

HW - Fedor Emelianenko, Frank Mir
LHW - Lyoto Machida, Renato Sobral
MW - Dan Henderson, Patrick Cote, Demian Maia
WW - Diego Sanchez, Karo Parisyan
LW - Roger Huerta, Sean Sherk

who is anthony johnson?

Round 11/Pick 86 - Dustin "McLovin" Hazelett

This may well be considered a stretch by most, but the guy's only 22 and has a lot of potential, and with a need for another welterweight after Serra packs it in, I'm going to roll the dice and take him here

promotion so far:

HW: lol
LHW: Liddell, F. Griffin
MW: Okami, Lawler, Leites
WW: Fitch, Serra, Hazelett
LW: Faber, T. Griffin, Yamamoto

It's nice to know that my commentary can set off panic in the masses. i say there are few WW's left, a run on WW ensues. Perhaps I should have just kept my big mouth shut and maybe i'd have gotten hazelett later on. oh well carry on.

He's a WW fighter in the UFC. His last fight was against Tommy Speer at the UFC Fight Night 13 where he pretty much made Tommy Speer look like he didn't belong in the UFC.

In my defense, I had already planned on taking a welterweight in Round 11. I'm just pissed you took Swick before I could nab him.

Danny's a bit of a megalomaniac. He's the type of guy who masturbates while looking at himself in the mirror.

Round 11 - Pick 87 Frank Edgar

Time to boost up my lower weights now that HW and LHW are looking decent. Edgar is one of the top young LWs IMO and I am trying to build my promotion for the long haul with talented young fighters. So far he has a couple solid wins over Tyson Griffen and Spencer Fisher. He did hit a bump in the road with a loss to Grey Maynard, without this I think he goes a few rounds ago, but I think think this is a temporary setback and he beats Hermes Franca on the July 19th PPV..

HW - Josh Barnett, Antonio Silva, Roy Nelson
LHW - Mauricio Rua, Thiago Silva, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou
MW - Paulo Filho, Nate Marquardt
WW - Jake Shields
LW - Tatsuya Kawajiri, Frank Edgar

I'm trying to do my best Dana White impersonation, remember?

Round 11/Pick 88 - Martin "Hitman" Kampmann

Martin Kampmann is one of the young, exciting up-and-comers at 185. At the age of 26, he already has a 16-2 MMA record with only one loss via cut in the last 5 years. He is a dangerous Danish Muay Thai champion who bloodied up Thales Leites on the feet for 15 minutes. Unlike most European fighters, Kampmann made the decision to move to the States to get better training. And he went to one of the best camps you could choose in Xtreme Couture.

Roster so far:

HW - Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Andrei Arlovski, Mirko Filipovic, Gabriel Gonzaga
LHW - Wanderlei Silva, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
MW - Gegard Mousasi, Yoshihiro Akiyama, Martin Kampmann
WW - Thiago Alves
LW - Eddie Alvarez
07-02-2008 , 02:59 PM
Round 12/Pick 89 - Clay "The Carpenter" Guida

Another tough decision where I was prodding over 5-6 guys. I'm hoping to get at least a couple of them in the next couple of rounds. I took Clay here because of his age, experience, exciting style, and because he lives 5 minutes away from where I grew up.

One thing that I looove about Clay is his enthusiasm for fighting. If you watch a fight card where he's just a spectator, you can usually see him by the fighter check-in, getting pumped, doing some shadow boxing.

He's also one of those special guys who has more fights than he has years on earth. He has a 22-9 record at 26, with wins over some quality guys (who I will not name, except for Josh Thomson) and some close, spirited losses against guys like Huerta, Griffin, and Gil Melendez.

Roster so far:
HW - Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Andrei Arlovski, Mirko Filipovic, Gabriel Gonzaga
LHW - Wanderlei Silva, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
MW - Gegard Mousasi, Yoshihiro Akiyama, Martin Kampmann
WW - Thiago Alves
LW - Eddie Alvarez, Clay Guida

Round 12 - Pick 90 - Phil Baroni

Why? Cuz he is da best eva!! I know this might be a reach, but with all the young Brazilians and other lesser known fighters on my roster, I need a hype guy. Baroni fits this role well. His fights are always exciting and he can sell a match..Plus with his announced move to welterweight he fits a need for my promotion..

HW - Josh Barnett, Antonio Silva, Roy Nelson
LHW - Mauricio Rua, Thiago Silva, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou
MW - Paulo Filho, Nate Marquardt
WW - Jake Shields, Phil Baroni
LW - Tatsuya Kawajiri, Frank Edgar
07-02-2008 , 03:47 PM
Round 12/Pick 91 - James Irvin

Need a light-heavyweight, and what better than the big name that Anderson Silva is going to posterize in a couple of weeks. i think i get a better pick available by going lightweight again, but there's plenty of good names to pick from there imo.

hw: overrated
lhw: liddell, f. griffin, irvin
mw: okami, lawler, telies
ww: fitch, serra, hazelett
lw: faber, griffin, yamamoto.
07-02-2008 , 04:01 PM
BTW i really like Edgar and consider him more talented than some/many of the guys who have gone with the last 5-10.
07-02-2008 , 04:04 PM
I think Irvin would have been available in later rounds without much trouble. I don't like the Baroni pick mainly because i doubt his ability to draw. I think the Martin Kampmann and Guida picks are steals and i considered both of them before picking Swick.
