True, if you spend $20 on your wallet rather than $200, there's $180 more.

It's just weird that this is a conversation at all. It's nice to have nice things? People not seeing how someone might want to spend money on something that most every guy has (esp when it will last 10-20 years) is , esp in this thread...

This thread is mostly about buying the best quality and style, not just burning cash when unnecessary (apart from that scandi guy who links all the weird stuff)

Do you think your $300 wallet (prob $450ish today) is inherently nicer than anything that can be bought for say under $50? You can get some quality leather wallets for a fraction of the price you paid and I'd have to question paying a huge market for having Prada 'design' it. Not like the people questioning your choice have some velcro kids wallet, I'd be willing to bet in a blind quality/style matchup we could find a wallet for 1/3rd of the price that would at least have a 50/50 split with the prada.

Thats my entire point. Necessity is subjective. There is a ton of stuff people post in here where

a) they're not paying the lowest price for similar build quality in another brand
b) they're paying a higher price for a luxury item and/or designer brand

The backlash on this is weird.

Also the irony on this post (and your hilarious attempt at being condescending with 'design') is that pretty much all wallets in the 50-100 range are from entry level designers (like hugo boss) who've just rebranded the same cow hide wallets that are selling in 10-30 dollar range.

Higher end leather goods are almost always full grain calf skin leather or better, and have a noticeable jump in quality in terms of both look and feel. Thinking even random people couldnt tell the difference better than a coinflip is as silly as thinking there's 50% increase in price in 6 years (i checked, they've only increased 20 eur in that time...)

I think you are taking this a bit too personally. Be assured that I, and most likely everyone else, doesn't really care that much about what you spend your money on. If you like something and think it's worth the price then fair enough.

Personally the marginal utility of spending excess $ on a wallet is wasted when it can be used for something else. If I had the choice over the prada wallet or a pair of Meermin's and the wallet pvn posted, there would only be one winner for me.

The 50% price increase was just pulled out of thin air I'll admit but it's around a 7% increase per year over the past 6 years. Alot of luxury goods, especially watches, have increased by factors larger than this over that time frame so it had some basis!

I assume someone spending $300 on a wallet is not needing to sacrifice a pair of shoes to do so. The reason they are spending $300 on a wallet is they have money so why not.

I 100% agree with you if it was an either/or decision, but I assume this would not be the case

I don't actually have any problem with someone spending $300 on a wallet, however it is the one item in my wardrobe in which I would never spend more than $50 on.

I'll spend $195-$400 on a Thomas Pink/Eton/T&A shirt, $250 on Epaulet Walt trousers, $800+ on G&G/EG/Vass shoes, $200+ on N&F jeans, etc. and feel fine about it, but for some reason spending this kind of money on a wallet is something I just would never do.

btw, I like Kent Wang a lot, and I even like the captoes I ordered this past week because of what I've been hearing lately. Actually, **** what I've been hearing, those captoes in his store look amazing and for $350 it's obviously worth a shot. However I still hope they actually live up to expectations after his recent statements on SF

I spent about $80 on this Tumi Monaco slim card case, then carry a 20+ year old Tiffany money clip.

Love the Tumi every time I use it, and the clip has so many scuffs & dings in it that gives it great a great look.

I have a Walmart wallet and it's actually not bad, but the credit cards are loose, even wedging a bunch of them in the same spot.

Is this a common thing with wallets or does mine just suck?

Your wallet must just suck. My Toys R Us wallet doesn't have any of those issues.

How would one "prove" one shoe is "better" than the other? Pretty easy claim for KW to make.

Would buy but they don't have my size at $239, they're $345. It looks like it works for many sizes though. I wouldn't think 10.5E was that popular? Looks like mostly 9 and under are on sale.
