Got a question for you guys about mailing cigars.

I'm moving from DC to LA this week. I'm flying out on Friday and having my folks ship my stuff early next week.

I have a humidor with a bunch of cigars that I'm packing in a suitcase that will then go in a box. That box will sit in my parents' basement for the weekend, and then they'll send it via USPS across the country, which means it could take like a week to get to me.

I recognize that this isn't the ideal situation, but it's the route I've chosen to go.

Is there anything I can do to minimize the heat/humidity damage that my cigars might undergo? I'm not worried about the condition of the humidor -- I'll have it packed up pretty good. It's the contents I'm most concerned about.

Thanks in advance.

Assuming you have some humi beads in there, the humidity will probably be ok. The temperature swings will probably be the biggest concern.

It's only a week so it's not that bad. I think they'll be fine in the long run. When it's over, just get them back to 70/70 and you'll be fine.

Any of you guys able to tell me how to know when my butane lighter is full? Also, how to know when my butane canister is empty?

I'm a butane noob

Your lighter should be completely full within 5 seconds of holding the canister to the lighter. You'll know when you fill your lighter and it doesnt light

Looks like they made it okay, despite spending like three weeks in the humidor, packed in a suitcase inside a box.

I'm moving to San Diego this week. I don't even smoke and I hate the smell of cigarette smoke, but I'm interested in trying some cigars as I feel like they are more luxurious.

I am here to ask you guys to pick me a sample from this page: http://netcigar.stores.yahoo.net/gol...-samplers.html

Or unless you know of a better sample from another website. I don't want to spend a lot of money on this box, but I would like quality and quantity for a good price. The reason I picked this page was because of Bill Rancic - pretty cool guy, imo - and because I feel like those are all reasonable prices that I'd be willing to pay, but if there is something better out there, I'll try something else.

Also, if I need a cutter or anything and can pick out a good one also, please add that in.

Thanks.

Go to your local b+m and pick up a couple of singles. A lot of the samplers have one or two good cigars and then a couple of dog rockets in them that nobody wants.
Look at the sub 6$ list on thiis link http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthread.php?t=29252 and pick some of them up.

I like a drink with my cigar. Anyone want to suggest a good drink combination with a Monte Cristo (or any other cigar/drink combination)? Last time i smoked a Monte Cristo I was drinking Stella with it and I have to say that beer in particular seemed to take away from my enjoyment of that specic cigar. Lil help? I'm far from a connoisseur so whatever combination that works i'd be happy to hear about.

I love beer with almost anything, but not with cigars. I just don't feel like they compliment each other well.

I've only had one Monte and don't remember it too well, so I can't offer recommendations for that specific stick, but bourbon and rum based drinks compliment cigars very well. You can get Montecristo Rum, which should go great with the cigars.

coffee, usually i just grab an americano w/ a bit of sugar
for soda coke or dr peper work well

I rarely drink while smoking cigars but some single malts have been tasty

Depending on the cigar and your tolerance you may want somethign with some sugar in it to keep you from getting overpowered by the tobacco

i'll try a single malt, either that or a crown and coke. My thoughts are too bland to justify sipping a coffee while smoking a cigar. I'd feel like i'm trying to pose as an academic.

crown/coke or rum/coke would probably work just fine, not really up my alley as far as drinks are concerned

a dark beer might be worth a try too, or something more complex at least like a Chimay

wow i've always seen the bottle for the stuff at lounges but i've never given it no mind. An orange flavoured cognac? interesting.

its certainly not for everyone, but every few months its a nice treat of sorts, if you hate sweet stuff with a passion you probably will not enjoy it, but as a crown and coke drinker you should give it a shot.

if you are looking for a full bodied smoke with a comparable amount of flavor, i would recommend the joya de nicaragua antano series. one of the fullest in body and flavor at the same time i have ever had, although my experience may be somewhat limited. 6.50 price range for a single depending on the smoke, but overall very reasonable. went ok with abita turbodog, would have preferred to go with a darker beer though

I bought a CAO cameroon "torpedo" cigar last night for a beer brew. I don't smoke that often but this was a really nice cigar, nothing overwhelming and I was able to exhale (I think this is the correct term) the smoke through my nose. It took a long time to smoke but by the time I was done I was feeling pretty good.

I believe the correct term is just "blow" though your nose rather then "exhale", since you shouldn't be inhaling anything. It's good to do, it really can let you pick up things in the flavor profile.

I used to think people were just being idiotic snobs when they said that cigars had notes of vanilla, coffee, pepper, etc... but I just wasn't smoking it in the right way to notice them.

I'm not gonna search the whole thread, so I dunno if it's been discussed, but does anyone have a reliable source for CC's? If so, would anyone be interested in a group buy? I'm tired of smoking my boss's fake Cohibas.

a couple of random pics of my humidor
i buy exclusively from JR cigars

I went looking for a local cigar shop and the one I found, I drove by it and didn't really like the feeling I got from it. It looked more like a gothic dump than anything.

I would personally like to just order something from the internet to begin with as I know close to zero about cigars.

I would prefer to go with jrcigars.com or cigarsaroundtheworld.com and start with a reasonably priced sampler pack.

Could someone link me to some good deals with good quality cigars? I prefer something that is light and enjoyable, not too powerful, not too bold, but just right for a beginner. I'll also need a cutter and maybe a lighter? So if you could add that in as well.

Thanks.

You should join the forums at clubstogie.com and do a Newbie Sampler.

Or, as I've said a couple times, go to cigarsinternational.com and get one of their taster packs.

I don't think I've seen this rand mentioned in this thread but I've really enjoyed the Puros Indios Piramide #2 lately.

Haven't been able to find them at many places except a local liquor store for about $4 a stick. Anyone else tried these?
