Wow, do you honestly believe this? You honestly think the 90's were better than the 00's? This was a ****ing sick decade for music; the decade that the popular culture finally figured out that singles that dominated the 90's were completely ridiculous and not worth the 3 weeks of popularity the gained, and instead turned attention towards really talented bands that could not only turn out great singles but put together awesome albums. This was the decade where The Arcade Fire blew up, where The National blew up, where Outkast finally got what they deserved, where a concept band like Gorillaz can not only succeed, but radically change the idea of what a band is AND how they go about recording an album. I find it super fitting that the last few months not only saw The National and Arcade Fire heading to the top of the charts, but saw Pavement selling out every show they played. Decade of the people's ears; what sounded good made waves.

We should list some albums of the 90s and compare.

Hey guys, I know I helped contribute to this thread's hijack but I really don't want this thing to degenerate into one of these types of discussions about music history that lead to pointless debates. Feel free to create a new thread with polls or canonical questions, but alas I think it's time to get the 2010 Music thread back on topic to 2010 music. Sorry.

Yeah...and why is this discussion popping up now and not, say, last year, when everyone else and they mama was doin best of the decade lists??

fly, i don't know where you are at but here in NYC "heartbeats" was definitely inescapable. although i spend a lot of time in gay bars so ymmv

EDIT - i mean, i know it's an indie dance single that didn't even chart in the US, but it made p4k and rolling stone's end of decade lists and was on some TV episode, so it's not like i'm talking about The For Carnation or something

I knows its a derail and its all subjective but yes the 90's were better AINEVC. None of your points are even vaguely true either.

I'm on my 2nd listen and there are literally 40 moments off the top of my head. War Pigs/Move Bitch is up there.

Single Ladies + Ante Up is pretty great

When Single Ladies starts coming in I thought to myself "no way he can make this work", but I was proven wrong. It's my favourite moment

Funny...I also have the exact opposite taste of Chawklit Rain and expect to not like anything he posts (not that his contributions aren't welcome).
11-16-2010 , 07:23 PM

I like pretty much everything he posts, and I don't get everyone's love for Girl Talk either.

I don't know what this means though.

Liking the first two GT albums and not liking this one is almost incomprehensible to me. Commenting about not liking the third GT album having not liked the previous two seems even more absurd.
11-16-2010 , 10:21 PM
Nit: this is GT's 5th LP

Secret Diary CD (2002, Illegal Art)
Unstoppable CD (2004, Illegal Art)
Night Ripper CD (2006, Illegal Art)
Feed the Animals CD (2008, Illegal Art)
All Day (2010, Illegal Art)

Its the 2nd sentence that is really confusing me.

Co Worker said to me "What the **** is this, Jock Jams 22?"
