The MS Paint grey square looks gradient to match the A & B squares.

You can use the dropper tool separately on each square yourself to see they are exactly the same.

If you slightly cross/blur your eyes it's a pretty good match between them too.

My favorite optical illusion is definitely the spinning spiral that makes it look like everything is moving. Just like lsd imo.

The most interesting thing about the shadow illusion isn't even the illusion. It's what happens when you show somebody. Essentially 100% of people say "I don't buy this one."

This implies that their brain actually thinks it is more likely that somebody would be showing them a fake illusion, which they would be able to instantly bust, just so that the perpetrator can tell them "awww you got me, it's fake" than it is that their eyes are just being fooled (like with all illusions.)

This is all the more amazing when you consider that everyone older than 18 has seen literally thousands of these things and they are always exactly what they are supposed to be... an illusion.

Still, your brain tells you "nope, those are different I don't care."
