I wound up quitting because of a 2 week roll-back that crippled my account and deleted several level 70 characters, but that was months ago, and I guess those problems are solved.

The exp/loot/cash are all multiplied significantly. By dual-window powerleveling yourself, I was able to level a character from 0-70 in like 6 hours. Sounds stupid, I know. But being able to just make various characters and then have fun with PvP isnt nearly as bad as soul-sucking retail WoW.
Im gonna do this now, thanks for the rec.

Wowscape was/is the largest private WoW server too, I think they have like 1000-2000 players online at any given time on their main server "Scape".

Just keep in mind that the private servers were built from emulators which in turn were essentially built from the ground up.

As such, when I played there were a lot of talents/skills that didn't function 100% properly, sometimes at all. Example being, at the time, execute for warriors didnt work at ALL. Nor did many of the talents in the mage fire tree. Overall it was still a relatively fun time.

A very fun game but it can be so addicting. Unless you really can allow yourself to be immersed in the game for several hours each day (aka. student/teenager/unemployed) you won't get the most out of it.

Yeah I never really got hooked like I thought I would. I'm far more addicted to Guitar Hero 3 than I ever was to this game. Perhaps the Activizzard merger will blend the two together and really lock me into an MMORPG.

Tell me, does the sun still exist?

just because it's too addictive for some people to stop doesn't mean it's not one of the greatest games ever

edit: fwiw i probably log an average of an hour a day, though i'd like to see if i could find online statistics of that. i would bet that i waste more time surfing 2p2

Whether or not it's one of the greatest games ever doesn't necessarily have that much to do with its appeal. Seems to me from years of playing them that the appeal of these games is at least as much social as having to do with gameplay. Where WoW is really great is in making an adequate to better than adequate game in an exceptionally appealing 3D cartoon world that provides a much better than adequate, and bound to improve, non-threatening social environment.

That all can be said to make up a game, but it's a non-traditional measurement to be sure, and when you look at the typical way of judging a game, for the gameplay itself, WoW isn't a monster stand-out. WoW works because you can "play it" almost entirely for the social value alone, even minimizing gameplay or skipping it entirely. It's like a myspace you can walk around in, plus there's stuff to do if you want to do it.

Exactly, judged soley for the game-iness of it, it's a very aged, not really that exciting, insanely repetitive game. I'd never be so bold as to call it a great game, let alone 'one of the greatest games ever'.

I think it would have been a lot better had the people in charge of developing WoW listened to.. the people in charge of developing WoW and not made it soo much like other mumorpugers.

I was just chatting with a friend on aim who plays counterstrike. I decided i'm glad i never got into vid games until after high school. I would be a social outcast by now (even more than i am becoming). I'm gonna go watch the south park episode re: Wow.

Levels from 10-60 go like 20% faster IIRC. They also added new quest hubs in places like swamp of sorrows to make weird levels like 35-40 easier.

Levelling guides on this site are good: http://www.wow-pro.com/node/754

I'm a lvl 50 Mage and I get raped by Horde all the time. So I would have to say, NOT Mages.

I'm thinking maybe Night Elf (for stealth) or Warrior (for strength), but I could be wrong.

Night Elf is a race, Warrior is a class.

Any class can be decent for pvp, just play what youll enjoy most.

Rogue is best for sneaking up to stab someone in the back or whatever.

Yes, any class is good for pvp if you know how to do it. However, a level > 68 will constantly get ganked anywhere they go.

Imsa, I believe the levels are 20-60 that got the boost.

Most clothies kinda suck for pvp, since you'll mostly be going up against druids, rogues, warrios and hunters. Locks can pretty much kill whoever they want.

IRT nelf stealth: it is a very powerful tool. One of the strongest in the game, tbh.

Also, to level fast, follow a leveling guide like joanna's horde leveling guide or something. You level way fast.

I mean Rogue....Night Elf Rogue is most common. I haven't looked at them in awhile. Ooops.

Yeah, it's been said above. Each class is viable in PvP if done right. If you're starting up with a few friends at the same time, try getting different classes so you can compliment each other.
