Fwiw, I'm pretty sure that it's much harder to get a PS3 to scratch a disk. Same with Wii. Here is a link explaining why the disks are scratched, and how easily it can be fixed.
Most systems scratch disks if you hit them while they are running. Sorry I suck at English (engineer). Hint OP, don't hit your systems when they are running. Maybe it occurs less with the PS3, but I know it occured all the time with a PS2.
i duno i kinda agree the 360 is way 2 fragile but im sure ps3 is similiar. But we can only blame ourselves sometimes for dumb mistakes even though stuff like this will happen
The best is blowing in the cartridges of the old NES.
somehow my copy of super bases loaded 2 for the SNES got a hole punched in the back of it. it took me forever blowing into that thing from both sides to get it to work.

So let's see - you dropped something relatively heavy onto something that is designed to NOT absorb shocks or blows. Now your game doesn't work... If you dropped something hard and relatively heavy on... Anything else electrical(?) and it breaks, at what point are your butterfingers to blame?
I just sent my launch day unit back today. I'm excited though...I should get one with the new heatsink, and hopefully one with a hdmi output. Only bummer is it broke before the Bioshock demo came out

I can think of a bunch of things in my room that would probably not make it out of an impact like that. Laptop, printer, XBOX (ldo evidently :P) and probably my monitors, depending on the angle of the hit.
