Although I just got some games (LittleBigPlanet and CoD5) and will probably get some others when I'm done with these (Dead Space, Bioshock and maybe Far Cry or Fall Out) I really, really need to play a good RPG again. Valkyrie Chronicles isn't really getting me excited. I'm not so much in to the strategic RPG's as the FFish RPG's. Perhaps Eternal Sonata will be good...

Persona 4 comes out in Dec. Haven't played any of them, but hey.

I put Chrono Trigger DS on my Amazon wishlist. Never played the original.

FWIW my strongest recent rec is Dragon Quest 8.

assuming you only have a ps3, I would definately play Eternal Sonatta, also I've heard great things about Folklore (which you should beable to find pretty cheaply used since it's been around for a while).

I'm waiting for the PS3 version of The Last Remnant before playing it and Can't wait till FF13.

I really wish the system had more RPG's though. I have never really been big into the SRPGs, however I'm going to give Disgaea 3 a try soon, and can't wait for Persona 4 even though it's PS2 only (glad I have a 60GB ps3).

Since you like RPGs I'm assuming you have a 360. Try out Lost Odyssey. Soooo much fun. I haven't tried out any of the hoards of square rpgs recently released but I'm sure there's at least a gem or two in there as well for a jRPG fan.

If you had to decide between buying an 37" LG LCD-TV with 720p and a Samsung 32" FullHD (Series 5), how would you decide? Screen size or resolution?

I have an xbox360 and I'm not really going to buy blu ray equipment (or a ps3) in the future (because, amongst other things, I can't install a nice sound system where I live). I understand that most xbox titles are 720p anyway and are upscaled to 1080p. Is the xbox touching the top of its capabilities anyway so that there won't be 1080p titles in the future that make a difference? Should I go for the extra size or for the full-hd with the smaller screen to be ready for future developments?

I can't afford a 37" full-hd and anything bigger than 37" will look stupid in my room and take away too much space.

so this summer my family went away for vacation. they were gone for about 6 weeks. when they were away there were ppl working in the yard and in like the basement. upon returning, i played some GTA IV on the ps3. i had played like an hour or so of the game before going away.

anyway, i fire it up and discover that somebody has completed the game! i loled pretty hard and saw that the last time the games been used/saved was when the family was away. so i guess the ppl who were supposed to work there had a pretty good time. is there any way that i can check how much time they played? pretty funny stuff..

The issue of screen size vs resolution is entirely one of how far away from the screen you'll typically sit.

In the first case, it is simply a mathematics issue - are you close enough to the screen to even see the improvement from 1080p to 720p? The second factor is the size of the screen.

The calculations have been done and are available here: http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtopic=16325 (it might require free registration on their forum to be able to access the file)

Another issue is one of content - do you have 1080p content? By the sounds of things, you do not.

Finally, as a general comment, you need to sit pretty bloody close (almost using it as close as you would be to a PC monitor) to get any benefit out of 1080p on a 32" screen. Your eyes simply aren't good enough to see the improvement from 720p to 1080p beyond a metre or two on a 32" screen.

The extra 5 inches is likely to be much more enjoyable to you than having 1080p. First of all there isn't much out there in the way of 1080p content unless you have a blu ray player. 2ndly you'll need to sit uncomfortably close to a 32" TV to be able to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p

Thanks guys! I ended up ordering a 37" Full-HD (LG 37LG5000). LOL. It had a good test result in an "official" test, i.e. performed by a consumer protection impartial governmental fund-thingy, and it was on sale on amazon's marketplace by amazon itself (damaged packaging) with all the refund rights etc. for the price of the 37" 720p.

LOL. Awesome. IIRC there is a stat that shows how many hours you have played. It's called "Playing Time". It should be in the game progress stats somewhere.

Hey! Now that COD5 is out, is COD4 still worth buying (xbox)? I don't like playing yet another WWII game and I hear that COD4 is great fun online and the campaign is nice. I just wonder if the # of people playing it on xbl will plummet now that COD5 got released.

I'll never get used to a world where 50 bucks for a game is considered a score.

Call me crazy but I feel like videogame prices really havent changed a whole bunch over the years.

I remember talking my parents into the $70 for Mortal Kombat on SNES in 1993, or NBA Jam, or any of the other new cutting edge titles of that time period.

Counting inflation, I really dont think the price of videogames has done anything, if not gone down. Nintendo, Jaguar, Sega, Super Nintendo, Dreamcast, Playstation... they were all relatively expensive when they were new, as were most of the software that went with them.

Or am I just crazy?

$40.00 in 1993 had about the same buying power as $59.21 in 2008.
Annual inflation over this period was about 2.65%.

This is according to http://www.dollartimes.com/calculators/inflation.htm

Back then (and of course now) there are certainly many 'budget' and used games that go for less then the usual $59.99 price point that most games come out with now, but I think my theory holds.
