Yeah I've been wanting a 1080 too, but no place seems to have any. Hopefully will calm down in a few months

I picked up a 1070 (MSI Gaming X) a few days ago.

I was planning on waiting a few months to see what happened with other 1070 and how 1080 would pan out both price wise and result-wise, but my 780TI started crashing my machine so it got kinda more urgent to replace it.

If it actually gets released here, has some kind of Virtual Console capability, and I can get Duck Hunt with zapper? Take all my money

Where do you live? It's been announced for US, Europe, Australia and NZ so far.

You can't play any light gun games unless you have a CRT TV and since this has HDMI only that's not going to happen. Duck Hunt on the Wii U supports the Wii remote though.

also, this is going to have to be incredibly competitively priced to outdo a raspberry pi running retro pi. anything more than $15-$20 is a ripoff

It's $60 and it's a gimmick. You can't play cartridges and afaik you can't add any more games so it's basically just a very limited but really cool looking emulator machine. It won't even come close to retro pi for actual gaming. The controllers are great though. They're only $10 and can plug into Wii remotes so supported by Wii and Wii U. I've got every NES game on my Wii so I'll at least grab a couple of those.

A ripoff that will sell like hotcakes because no normal person wants to **** with a raspberry pi.

I pray that we discover the board running that is a pi or similar. Would be too funny.

I wonder how many times they can get people to pay for the same games.

Take SMB for example: The original release, Super Mario All-Stars, SMB Deluxe (GBC), Classic NES Series (GBA), 3DS Virtual Console, Wii/Wii U Virtual Console, etc, and now this device.

Worth $60 just to keep that little guy on your shelf and look cool imo. I still have stacks of NES, Genesis, and SNES games but only a working NES - might get one of those machines that can play all three but the reviews always suck.

Yeah, the market was flooded with these kind of things like 10 years ago. Mostly Genesis-in-a-joystick. And also the Flashback consoles.

There are like zero human american consumers who want to do anything with a raspberry pi, and like 4 who actually know what a raspberry pi is.

This will be a great product and will sell like crazy. I'll buy it.

Why didn't they just stick every single NES ROM on it? That's like a few hundred MB.

Music licenses and stuff run out as well, which I think is a big problem.

if I recall, gog had a piece about how they once had to track down the license for a game and it was just a piece of paper in the bottom of some filing cabinet.

It's not because of the CRT, it's probably because of input lag which can't be compensated for properly on a console not designed to do so:

As a counter example, while the Vectrex has a CRT it's not a raster display and can use a light gun (virtually the same technique as the NES) just fine:
