He was in guitar hero tv mode or whatever, and it literally took 30 seconds to a minute to get back into the same song. The hero power bonus was "clear all notes on the screen", and it should count as playing the notes, sometimes it caused him to miss a note upon activation because it didn't "clear the note" as it was supposed to.
Those were his main complaints. He didn't seem like he was overly happy with it, but he didn't say it was terrible either.
The bolded is an absolute dealbreaker.
In Guitar Hero 1/2/80s, you could hit pause, strum down to "restart," press green, and the song would restart INSTANTLY. It literally takes me about 1/4 of a second to execute that button sequence because it's now just a muscle memory burned into my brain.
In GH3, you hit pause, the menu took a couple of seconds to appear. Then you hit restart. Another popup box appeared asking "Are you sure you ****ing moron??????????" Then you clicked "Yes, you goddam game, I am sure that I hit pause and then strummed down and hit restart because I want to ****ing restart, holy ****".. AND THEN IT WOULD COMPLETELY RELOAD THE SONG. So yeah, probably about 20 seconds if not more, plus an extra dialog box. I have gotten so pissed off at that so many times, you have no idea.
So if GHLive has it - no. Not a chance that I'm going to try to learn a completely new engine while dealing with 30 second restart times. Not one ****ing chance.
Nice to see that game developers have figured their **** out in the last decade.
