Huh they released (or are soon releasing?) another Assassin's Creed game - is it just me or are they pumping those things out every 6 months now? Kudos to them if they keep selling - I played through most of II and haven't had any desire to play one since, then couldn't get through more than 30 minutes of IV (free on Games with Gold) because the stealth was infuriating me.

I believe Assassin's Creed has been a yearly release (I think they want it to be a CoD-like franchise) for a very long time now.

2-3 years between major releases (the numbered games) while presumably other dev teams work on shovelware based on the latest engine that the good team made.

Surprisingly I have not and don't have plans to currently. Would also like to hear some forum feedback.

I watched one of the world record holders streaming it. He was saying that there is a huge learning curve. He did not see a practice mode, where you could practice certain sections of the songs. There is not a restart option in the menus, so you have to quit the song, let it loss to song selection, and then select song. He was in guitar hero tv mode or whatever, and it literally took 30 seconds to a minute to get back into the same song. The hero power bonus was "clear all notes on the screen", and it should count as playing the notes, sometimes it caused him to miss a note upon activation because it didn't "clear the note" as it was supposed to.

Those were his main complaints. He didn't seem like he was overly happy with it, but he didn't say it was terrible either.

There was a 360/PS3 generation AC last year and a current gen AC in 2014, and now they have created a subfranchise of 2.5D sidescrollers set in China and ****.

But I think they've abandoned the numbering system, they've now released 3 unrelated main franchise games since 4 without a number*. Unity was a "tick" in the tick-tock of major release-followup and it didn't get a number, but AC:4 was a "tock" minor release and it did.

*Assassin's Creed 4 came out less than 2 years ago lol, AC is the most flogged franchise without any actual memorable characters or even an overarching story.

What makes you say that 4 was a minor release? It was the first game to use a next-gen engine, which almost certainly means it was made by their #1 dev team.

But yeah, the older formula used to be, introduce a new character/new world and that game gets a number, then make three more Ezio games that don't because 99% of your work is only making content.

Rogue was basically previous-gen shovelware apparently made by Ubisoft Sofia, so I'm not sure it counts. I'd expect next year's game to be AC5 based solely on the pattern that they haven't gone more than 3 years between numbered games, but it's not really clear what their standard for deciding is anymore.

Reading about Syndicate, isn't it majorly breaking canon with this "two playable characters, a twin brother and sister" nonsense? The whole thing is this lol notion that the distant past stuff works because the act of playing the game is actually just accessing the memories of your ancestors stored in your DNA. So what, did this twin brother and sister **** and they're both your ancestors?

It was the same engine as 3. They got it to work cross platform, but Unity was the major engine upgrade(and Syndicate was farmed out to Quebec City).

But here's the thing: I don't know if there is a #1 dev team for that franchise. Ubisoft Montreal is HUGE. 3, 4, and Unity were all made by different teams, Unity started development after Brotherhood. 4 was the first AC made by that team, it kinda seems like it was an offshoot passion project to make something of 3's stupid ship minigame.

Rogue and Syndicate are the only real AC games made outside Montreal, but check the credits. There were 10 credited studios on Unity! That's how they make these once a year, they have a conveyor belt churning them out. It's not like the Treyarch-Infinity Ward of golden age CoD.

The bolded is an absolute dealbreaker.

In Guitar Hero 1/2/80s, you could hit pause, strum down to "restart," press green, and the song would restart INSTANTLY. It literally takes me about 1/4 of a second to execute that button sequence because it's now just a muscle memory burned into my brain.

In GH3, you hit pause, the menu took a couple of seconds to appear. Then you hit restart. Another popup box appeared asking "Are you sure you ****ing moron??????????" Then you clicked "Yes, you goddam game, I am sure that I hit pause and then strummed down and hit restart because I want to ****ing restart, holy ****".. AND THEN IT WOULD COMPLETELY RELOAD THE SONG. So yeah, probably about 20 seconds if not more, plus an extra dialog box. I have gotten so pissed off at that so many times, you have no idea.

So if GHLive has it - no. Not a chance that I'm going to try to learn a completely new engine while dealing with 30 second restart times. Not one ****ing chance.

Nice to see that game developers have figured their **** out in the last decade.

You can turn GH2 on, code in hyperspeed, go to freaking career mode, and be playing a song within 10 seconds. Guitar Hero 3? Good luck doing that in under a minute. It's the worst ****ing Ebola imaginable.

WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY.

There are ten million reasons why the series peaked at GH2, and the engine is #1, but load times might be #2.

Man, that seems like terrible planning to have to put a bunch of throwaway work to update a previous-gen engine for new-gen that you won't even use again.
