Spent an hour or so modding both Baldur's Gate games today and will probably create a character now even though I doubt I'll ever actually get around to playing them. I feel like this should have been the plot of "This is 40."

What fixed it?

Sorry for not getting back to you on this. Since it wasn't posted in the gaming hardware thread I kinda forget it was going on.

It was super satisfying to get both games running in the BGII engine in modern resolutions...I am hoping to play it at some point in the not-too-distant future.

Speaking of board games, the weekly Humble Bundle is tabletop games. Almost definitely getting the PWYW tier for Small World 2, which I'vealways wanted but balked at buying on iPad several times.

Was looking up the game and saw that there's a remastered version from just a few years ago. Is it going to be much different from a modded regular version?

When the Enhanced Editions originally came out (especially the first game), they were pretty buggy and it seemed like modding the original games was clearly the superior choice. Now it sounds like there is some more division on which way to go. The original versions will cost you less money and you can pick and choose which mods and enhancements you want, but on the other hand it can be time consuming and I guess there could be issues with running them on some modern machines. For reference, I am not a skilled modder by any means but I was able to follow instructions and get the game up and running with both recommended and optional mods on my Mac using the GOG version. The Enhanced Editions include a lot of fixes from the old games and some new content, plus it has the advantage of being ready to play right out of the box. Honestly, if I was buying them fresh I probably would have gone with the Enhanced Editions or bought it on my iPad but I got the GOG versions with a D&D bundle so they only cost me a few bucks per game and modding wasn't too hard, so I don't think you can go wrong either way.

I basically just did a "reset" which kept my files but removed programs and set the laptop back to the way it was when it was new. And catalyst control center worked perfectly.

Since then, I did the Windows 8.1 update (again) and was pretty nervous about it, and I'm pretty sure that was part of the problem. after that my graphics settings completely **** the bed, catalyst no longer worked, but when i installed the "correct" driver from Dell that I had previously tried installing multiple times, my computer automatically started recognizing and utilizing the graphics card properly, even though I have zero way of actually configuring it to do so. So it still works again now, kind of.

So I kinda feel like this is balancing on a knife edge and I'm one Windows Update away from it ****ing everything up again, but I also know that the best solution if it stops working again is to reset again and just not upgrade to Windows 8.1

Cliffs: Dell WOAT, Windows 8 WOAT. When those WOATS combine...

The Enhanced Editions do fix a lot of bugs and make improvements that modders can't because they don't have access to the source code. For example, the EE games run in native high-resolutions and improve the notoriously bad pathfinding and UI. The biggest changes are that the EEs add new NPCs, quests, areas and kits, plus arena-style expansions.

You're not losing out on mods either as nearly all the mods are compatible with the EEs.

Can you make is so the EEs allow you to take one party through both games?

Spent about 2 hours modding BG via a guide I found online. After several hours of play I found that that there was an issue with two of the mods which would make the game crash if you went into certain areas.

Was a bummer.

So a couple things. Since I still haven't gotten a ps3, and I am Jonesing for a good baseball game, I remember mvp baseball 2005 being awesome. There is also apparently a thriving mod community on the pc, so how do I start? Where can I buy the game? If anyone is familiar with modding or modding this game in particular I'd appreciate any help

I know, isn't on gog either. Really odd to me that ea passes up what seems to be a fairly easy money making opportunity

is it on origins or whatever EA uses?

may be licensing issues for older games like that (which have connections to major franchises like MLB)

It would definitely be licenses running out. It's an MLB game from 2005, no chance EA is paying 10 years worth of royalties. I can only see one copy on ebay and it's $70 used.

Yeah they are absurdly expensive on ebay. no reason not to instead just get a used ps3

Is this a creeking reference? Cause recently the owner of my river posted a notice on the bank saying the owners of the creek were aware I was sailing down it and fishing from it and that I shouldn't do anymore fishing from any creek connected to their river lest the creek owner demand compensation for the fishing I was doing. And while the posted notice is essentially a scare tactic from the creek owners, it's essentially worked with me.

No the trilogy mod is not compatible. Not quite clear how that even works as only 5 of the BG1 NPCs are recruitable in BG2, and they have different stats. You would need to install a custom NPC mod, most of which are apparently rubbish, if you wanted those BG1 NPCs to say anything in the sequel.

pretty interesting / crazy / sad article on game developers Darkside Games and the Xbox game Phantom Dust http://kotaku.com/how-a-small-game-s...big-1696997142

obv not the full story, but weird goings on indeed.

No more than a week after they’d signed the contract, according to several ex-Darkside employees, Microsoft’s team came back to the studio with a new request: they wanted a single-player campaign. “They decided that fans were gonna want a single-player game,” said a person who worked on the project. “But they weren’t going to change the budget or the timeframe.”

Suddenly, what was once a $5 million multiplayer reboot of Phantom Dust had become a $5 million multiplayer reboot of Phantom Dust with a six-hour single-player story mode attached. That meant Darkside would need more designers, more artists, and more programmers, all of which equated to extra time and money that they didn’t have. Still, employees say they were committed to pulling it off. This was their first solo project. They wanted to prove they were good enough to do it. According to one Darkside source, their tentative plan was to build a fun vertical slice—a playable and demonstrable chunk of the game—and use it to persuade Microsoft into giving them more money.
Foolproof plan, obv. They should have said no when MS tried to get them to do a lot more work for the same amount of money. That's not to say MS is blameless, they're huge dicks too.
