Just l-o-l at how many pieces of plastic Nintendo thinks they can sell to Wii owners. What are we up to now for official peripherals? Wii Motion Plus, Wii Speak, Wii Wheel, Wii Zapper, Wii Balance Board, and now Wii Vitality Sensor? Did I miss anything?

Also was wrong about Wii Vitality Sensor integrating with SMG 2. That's not confirmed, they just demoed them back to back at the show but apparently Iwata wasn't wearing the Vitality Sensor when playing SMG 2, so it's not clear that the game uses it.

Only games that look interesting are New Super Mario Bros Wii and Mario Galaxy 2.

No interest in that Kingdom Hearts game? Is there a review for how the Japan game is? I loved 1 and 2.

I think there's interest, but the game was announced in 2007 and was already released in 2009. I think everyone knew it was coming stateside. So it's not really "zomg big E3 announcement" type of thing; mostly just Nintendo pimping a game everyone knew was coming.

Famitsu gave it a 36/40.

The actually "oh wow, that's pretty cool" announcement that was imo surprising was Golden Sun DS. The GBA Golden Suns were awesome, I'd expect the DS game to be more of the same.

To the uninformed me, this looks like a pretty sweet set of announcements. Though you had me scared with the Vitality thing being connected to SMG2.

Not sure what the anti-fuss is about. This is in at least the 80th percentile as far as Nintendo E3 press conferences. Year after year I remember "new Mario and Zelda games possibly shown at E3", and there was never anything. To get a Galaxy sequel and a Metroid sequel in one show plus a couple of the other minorly cool things is pretty huge.

I'm really not trying to be a hater, Wii just has so few great titles IMO. And I love the Big N more than anything...it's just sad that even first party titles have not been as good as they were on GC.

It isn't an exact science and we all know reviews can be skewed but....

Wii has 8 titles with a 89 or higher on metacritic. Of these 8 titles, 2 came from last generation (Okami and RE4) and Twilight Princess was released on the gamecube as well. So about 5 true must have titles from this generation. In comparison Xbox360 has 32 titles that rank 89 or higher.

I just can't imagine any gamer who wants the best titles to ONLY own a Wii.

Yea, this is WAY better than Nintendo's event at last year's E3. Maybe finally I'll be convinced to buy a Wii. Probably not though.

The new metroid looks neat to me. I couldn't play the first person metroids for more than a couple of hours before getting bored. You can do so much more interesting puzzles and environment interactivity in third person imo. A+

This is skewed, though, as you note. I think you picked 89 because xbox360 has 12 games with a Metacritic score of 89 while Wii has 0. If we say > or = 90, it's xbox360 with 20, Wii with 8. Which is damning enough on its own.

Also, if Okami, RE4 and TP don't count for Wii, which is fair enough, then certainly Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Rez HD, and Peggle ought not to count for the Xbox360, since they're last-gen or beyond, or ports of old PC games.

None of which is relevant to judging how successful Nintendo's E3 was. I think it was fairly decent. Some actual games most everyone will likely enjoy (NSMB:W, SMG 2, Metroid Other M) and some casual stuff for the casual audience (Wii Fit Plus, DSi Facebook integration, Vitality Sensor). This is the kind of company Nintendo is, and frankly I don't think it's a vast departure from what they once were. They've always been peripheral-happy, always had more of a "wider appeal" relative to their competitors, be it Sega, Sony, or Microsoft. I'm not sure what people expect from Nintendo that they're not getting. They did a 2d Mario, a 3d Mario, and a new Metroid. Are people really that angst ridden waiting for a new Kirby or Donkey Kong collectathon?

I'm just pissed that Nintendo is dominating this generation and it gets very little quality third party support. I know the better companies probably want to push the graphics-storytelling envelope and it is probably difficult to do on the Wii. I certainly hope the next console Nintendo releases is a processing juggernaut, and not some crap like equal to Xbox 360 or something that I fear.

I love Nintendo, but damn all the best games really are on other systems with a few exceptions. Assuming we call best games things like Bioshock, Gears of War, etc, and not "oh wow my whole family can play Wii Carnival!"

And yes none of this has to do with E3, so I'll shut up now. I was just telling CC I'm not a Nintendo hater by any means. If anything the company I hate most (Microsoft) is the console I play the most by a staggering amount.

It's a bit of chicken and egg. Third parties have tried to support Wii with quality games (see MadWorld, No More Heros) and no one buys them.

Not that I have a Wii or anything, but this does sound like a pretty sweet set of announcements. Particularly the new Metroid game developed by Team Ninja, of course.

I'm most looking forward to NSMB for Wii. I love the co-op/competetive play-style of the original Mario Bros. game and it looks like this 4 player simultaneous game will have that sort of vibe. It is impossible to describe how fun that is until you've played it. I consider the original Mario Bros. (note: not Super Mario Bros.) one of the most fun 2 player games of all time.

I can't wait for this.

Metroid Prime 3 was the sickest game evarr so I'm pretty excited about this. SMG2 will probably be pretty good too. But other than that, christ, what a turdfest Nintendo has become. qft the "it prints money" pic.

The weirdest part about this is how nobody at all predicted that Nintendo would look at all the money they were making from crap like Wii Fit and decide that they should move their system in the direction of "sell bull**** accessories" rather than "make good games." WHO COULD HAVE GUESSED?!?!

Ah, but the hitch here imo is that Nintendo has pretty much always made "sell bull**** accessories" a big part of their business model. This has been Nintendo's modus operandi for a long time.

So I get the whole "Nintendo sucks, abuses its customers for expensive plastic crap" but I don't understand the whole "I hate the company Nintendo has become". It's the same company it's always been, we're just not 12 years old anymore.
